Regarding used sports equipment for kids-our family is involved in youth hockey. We've learned that it is preferable to lease some equipment, others are best to buy used, and some SHOULD be bought new, striking a balance between quality and value. Kids are always outgrowing stuff, there is always equipment floating around! However, the list of what is best to get where changes as the kids get older. Sometimes the best investment in safety is buying new.

What about used pets? lol. All of our pets have been adopted from shelters or foster agencies. Used but still loveable!

I would also add car parts to the cars item on your list. I was recently quoted $150 for a new door mirror (thats before matching the paint). I picked on up for under half that price that was a perfect match to my car's paint job from an online autowrecking site. I then paid the local mechanic 10 bucks to pop it on for me.

Also you might consider renting things from local people from a site like www.rentnotbuy.com, rather than buying it at all. Its free to use.

Great bog by the way, I just discovered it.

Great list. I agree. One baby thing I refuse to buy used though is a potty seat. The thought just disgusts me for some reason. I'll clean up my own kid's poop but not someone elses.

Computers are a great buy used! Computers that will not run the newer Vista program are often sold, and since they will run the 'free on the web' Ubuntu program quite adequately, they may be the buy of a lifetime! I use the free Ububtu program and after a short familiarization period, I find it works great, and the price is right if you are short on cash!

I love to share as well as receive plant cuttings and bulbs with friends. I am trying to be more avid about buying used whenever it is possible. Sometimes I have luck at our consignment shop in our town, but lot of times they are to high. For instance, most of their blouses are $5 or more, I can hit the clearance rack at Penneys and other stores and do better. Last fall I purchase 3 brand new Liz bouses on clearance at the mall for $2.00 each, One thing I do love to look for at yard sales is old dishes. I just love em.

I am guilty of ordering flowers and bulbs for my garden. Not only are they expensive most times they die. Now I have a group of gardening friends and we exchange plants between us. It is working out wonderfully and not only do I get the plants I get alot of gardening knowledge as well.
