The response to the letter on chores really resonated with me. This is an issue that I've been thinking about a lot lately. I used to give allowance for chores, but as you said, I noticed that since my daughter doesn't really want much, she felt okay about not making her bed, even if it meant no allowance because what was she going to do with the money anyway? So, chores have now become the expectation in our home, like yours, with money or other things like praise, etc. given for extra chores. The kids don't know it yet, but this weekend, they'll be asked to pick up the sticks in the yard (our backyard is woods...THIS is a chore) and will be given some sort of reward for doing so. Just like I'd pay a landscaper to come and do it. :)
