Stephanie the owner of Soaps Gone Buy has generously sponsored this contest by offering a Make Your Own Laundry Detergent Kit with PRE-GRATED Fels Naptha. One lucky Frugal Village reader will be randomly chosen to receive this awesome laundry kit. Making your own laundry detergent is a great way to save money.

The following items are included with this kit:
1-55 ounce box of Arm and Hammer Washing Soda
1-76 ounce box of 20 Mule Team Borax
2 pounds of GRATED Fels Naptha Heavy Duty Laundry Soap
1-5.5 ounce bar of Fels Naptha Heavy Duty Laundry Soap – Single Bar
No grating required. The kit contains everything but the water to make your own detergent. The kit contains enough product to make 10 batches (2 gallon or 64 loads recipe using 1/2 cup per load) of the liquid detergent with some remaining washing soda and borax to use around the house! Or enough to make 96 loads of dry. Comes complete with instructions on making dry or liquid versions.
I get asked ALL the time where to find Super Washing Soda. Soapsgonebuy.com is a great place to buy it. She also carries all the ingredients listed above to make laundry detergent. By the case prices, too. And spray bottles, Colgate Octagon, Boraxo soap, Soilove laundry treatment, Bar Keeper’s friend, and I can’t tell you how much I love Euro sponges and she carries those, too. A tip from Stephanie: The laundry detergent recipes will NOT make suds in your washer so don’t be alarmed. Fels Naptha Soap is a pure soap and typically makes little or no suds in the water. This makes it perfect for use in the new HE washers as well as tradional washers. You will also notice the need to either reduce your laundry softener or in most cases you can even eliminate the use of softener completely.

I’m not sure about that, but I do like to make my own cleaners, home remedies, plus cook from scratch. Recently retired, I once again have the time to do this (plus the need, living on a fixed income) as I did when my kids were young and still at home. Whether you do chose me or not, I would sure like the recipe. I’ve recently decided I can’t afford liquid laundry detergent & switched to generic powder mixed with baking soda. I use only cold water (my laundry “room” is out in my yard) so a recipe for liquid laundry soap would be wonderful!

I’ve been making my own laundry detergent for coming up on a year. It works wonderfully well & it’s actually fun to make it. Now grating the Fels-Naptha soap’s not so much fun so getting 2 lbs. of it already grated would be terrific!
For fabric softener, I use some white distilled vinegar in the rinse water. It also removes any & all soap, which is great for those with sensitive skin.

I want a Soapsgonebuy laundry detergent kit, please! This is so exciting that I came across this! I just started looking into making my own laundry soap and boy has it been a pain trying to find Arm and Hammer Washing Soda and bars of Fels Naptha. Thank you for suggesting soapsgonebuy.com
194Another thing I’m looking into is making my own “dryer” sheets. Some people suggest buying a brand name bottle of liquid fabric softener and mixing it 2 parts water to 1 part softener. Put in a bucket (keeping covered when not in use) with sponges and when you put a load of clothes in the dryer add a sponge (wring out excess liquid) and use like you would a dryer sheet. When the laundry is dry, return the sponge to the fabric softener bucket. I am learning to be frugal one day at a time!

I’ve made both the liquid & powdered laundry versions and finally settled on the powdered one due to it taking up less storage space. I have no trouble finding the borax, but have to travel 70 miles to get the washing soda; however in the pool section of WM I have found the sodium carbonate, but it costs a lot more than A&H washing soda. Washing soda is sodium carbonate. I’ve never even seen Fels Naptha and with shipping/handling fees being totally outrageous, I use Zote laundry soap from Big Lots at .80 per bar. I’ve also made this and given it to my daughter, she loves FREE.

My wife and I use Fels Naptha (bar) to get stains out of our 15-month-old’s clothes. It works great! We also recently started using Borax 20-Mule Team in a mixture my wife found on the web to prevent fleas. Our dog is always bringing them in the house every time she goes out. It seems to be working. And of course we use Arm & Hammer products for baking, cleaning and even when one of us has an upset stomach. All great products! Thank you.
