Easy Homemade Skin Care Products
When you meet someone for the first time, one of the first things they notice about you is your skin. Uneven skin tone, age spots, wrinkles, and acne problems can all color someone’s perception of you before they even get to know you. That is why skin care is so important. Unfortunately, many of the most effective skin care products are also some of the most expensive. You will be glad to know, then, that you can make your own skin care products at home for a fraction of the cost!
Homemade Lotions and Moisturizers
Almond Oil Lotion – To make your own lotion you can combine ½ cup of almond oil with ¼ cup each of cold-pressed coconut oil and beeswax in a double boiler. Melt the ingredients, stirring occasionally, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. After mixing the ingredients, pour the lotion into a glass jar and store for up to 6 months.
Aloe Vera Lotion – For a homemade lotion that offers healing benefits, you might try making a homemade moisturizer using aloe vera gel. Start by melting ½ cup of almond oil with 1 tablespoon each of beeswax and shea butter in a double boiler. When melted, remove from heat and stir well then pour into a mason jar. Cool to room temperature then stir in 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil and a few drops of essential oil. Finally, blend in the aloe vera gel until thoroughly combined then store in the fridge.
DIY Exfoliating Scrubs
Exfoliating Sugar Scrub – This simple exfoliating scrub will leave your skin feeling fresh and clean. Start by combining ½ cup of coconut oil with ½ cup organic white sugar in a glass jar. Stir in a few drops of essential oils then store tightly covered with the lid. To use this scrub, simply rub 1 tablespoon or so into your skin in the shower and rinse with warm water.
Brown Sugar Lip Scrub – If you have dry or chapped lips, this brown sugar lip scrub will help to remove dead skin, revealing the soft skin underneath. Just take 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and stir in enough coconut oil to make it stick together – you can also add a drop of vanilla, if you like.
Other DIY Skin Care Products
If you don’t feel like making your own beauty products, there are some basic household items that you may be able to use. For example, cold-pressed coconut oil is a great all-purpose moisturizer and you can use mashed avocado as a moisturizing face mask. Raw honey has natural antibacterial properties and can help to clean out your pores while egg yolks can be used as spot treatment for acne. Place tea bags under your eyes to shrink bags and exfoliate the rough skin on your feet with a mix of olive oil and salt.
Do not take your skin for granted. Though you may have soft, smooth, and supple skin right now, if you don’t take care of your skin it won’t be long until it starts to show. Basic skin care is neither complication nor time-consuming, so make sure it has a place in your daily routine!
