6 Ways to Have Fun This Summer for Under $100

Warm weather and longer days make everybody want to get out of the house and have some fun. Unfortunately, most types of entertainment don’t come for free. But, there are still plenty of ways you can enjoy yourself this summer without breaking the bank.

Here are six things you can do for less than $100:

  1. Have a Barbecue

Nothing says summer like a good old-fashioned barbecue. Serve up some hot dogs, burgers or chicken and ask your friends to contribute the side dishes. It’ll be a guaranteed hit. You could even have a bonfire after the barbecue as the sun sets, laughing and making s’mores. Buy meat straight from the butcher, where they often have daily specials that will be way cheaper than the grocery store. Freeze any leftovers to get the most out of your money.

  1. Go Miniature Golfing

There’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition, right? Get a group together and take on 18 obstacle-packed holes to see who comes out on top. This is a fun, cheap way to get outside and spend an evening after dinner. Loser buys the ice cream!

  1. Host a Game Night

Planning a game night for friends, co-workers or family is a great way to get everyone together without having to spend a lot of money. Encourage the people you invite to bring their own games, as well, and you’ll have plenty of options. Amazon often has special deals on their most popular games, and you can find them there much cheaper than in a store. Ticket to Ride and King of Tokyo are my personal recommendations, if they’re on sale.

  1. Find some new yard games.

If Corn Hole and Beer Pong have gotten old, search for some new yard party games, like QB54. This game is perfect for sports lovers, especially football fanatics. Grab a few buddies and set up your QB54 Game Set anywhere — at the beach, by the lake or in your backyard.

A flap on the seats folds up to reveal baskets, and goal posts attach to the back of the chairs. You’ll score a touchdown when you throw the football into the basket and an extra point when you kick the football through the goal posts. It’s an even better deal because when you’re not playing the game, you get some nice lawn chairs for relaxing.

  1. Attend Local Fairs and Carnivals

Most towns and boroughs have their own fairs or festivals throughout the summer complete with rides, games and delicious fried food. You could easily stick to the budget while playing some skee ball or riding The Zipper a few times. Make sure you go in with a certain amount of money to spend though, or you’ll lose track of how many quarters you’re feeding into the games and rides.

Best of all, these events often benefit your local fire department or police station, so you know your money will be used for good.

  1. Take Advantage of the Great Outdoors

Hiking, biking, kayaking or simply going for a walk are great ways to have fun for little to no money. The great outdoors is always there for you to explore, and you’ll be doing your health a favor, too.

It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to have a little bit of summertime fun. Start with these six ideas for budget-friendly activities, and you’re likely to come up with a few ideas of your own along the way. Your mental health and wallet will thank you.
