Default Russia Threatens to Stop US Adoptions

I know we have a few families here that have or will be adopting -- I heard about this on the news and I wanted to share it.

My heart goes out to all those children who will remain in Russia and never have the chance to be adopted by American parents and have a forever family, as well as the families who are already waiting to bring home their child... all because of one stupid insane COMPLETE MORON !!!

I don't understand how it could have come to that. Why didn't she speak to the adoption agency and her social worker if she couldn't handle the child. Where was the follow-up?

My brother adopted twice from Russia. I can't imagine how devastating this is for the families that were nearly at the end of such a long, difficult, and exorbitantly expensive process.

This woman could have spoken to the agency, could have spoken to a counselor, could have done many other things...

And now her dumb decision is hurting a LOT of people. I feel sorry for the little boy in the center of this all... but only to a point... I do have to be happy for him at the same time, he won't have to live a life with THAT WOMAN anymore.

On the home-front... My Diva is internationally adopted too. She started crying because she had heard the newscast... she is scared that she too can be returned to her country if she misbehaves.

I have been trying to convince her that I will never do that to her and I would never allow her to be taken away. I don't know what else I can do to convince her. I once told her that "adoption means forever" and then she sees something like THAT?????

Once again, the stupidity of the few screws over the many!

I am not a parent and never will be, so please do not let my ignorance offend anyone, but I got to ask.....

How the Hell did someone this stupid get a child to start with? I mean, arn't there screening procedures or something? I don't even like most children and could not imagine placing a child on a plane ALONE to anywhere, much less overseas. I hope she gets fined heavily, Jail-Time and is black listed from even seeing children ever again.
