    Thumbs up Wonderful!

How great that we have an adoption thread! I just found it as I was browsing the website.

Well, My husband and I are adopting. Actually, I should say, we are going to be in a Foster/adopt situation.

We are getting a baby in January and we are so excited. We just found out about her the Monday before Thanksgiving, so we really have had very little time to prepare. Our hearts, however, have been prepared for a while.

Last Christmas we decided we were ready to start a family, and rather than have a family on our own, we felt like God was telling us to adopt. So, in February we started our classes. We finished those in March. I was laid off from my job in June, so I started harassing our adoption specialist to get our home study done. It was rare that she would even return my call. We had really given up and moved on with our lives. I started a new job and DH decided to go back to school. We had made the decision to give it all up to The Lord and believed that it would all happen in his timing. FINALLY in November she called and said she has a child for us. I was shocked!

We have been in a whirlwind of preparation for the past couple weeks. We have been finishing our paperwork, getting physicals, and we have now completed our home study. It seemed like nothing was going to happen, and now it seems to be happening so quickly! We're just going with the flow.

We will be fostering our new baby until the hearing for the parents. If all goes as planned, we will be able to start the adoption process after that. It is a risk, but one we are willing to make.

I will be leaving my job ( haven't told my boss yet...) and I will probably start doing child care in my home for 1 or 2 extra children to earn some money. I just can't wait!!! We hope that this will be the first of many adoptions (and maybe a few of our own.)

Thats our adoption story so far!

Congratulations! Just PLEASE- PLEASE - PLEASE keep something in mind - and I don't want to "rain on your parade". We are also a foster/adopt home. We have had "our" little girl with us for just over 10 months now - she had just turned 1 year old when we got her. If your court system is anything like Minnesota's - well, be prepared for many ups & downs. We had court again today - the roller coaster ride continues ----

Unfortunately you are right, that can happen. We are hoping for the best, and trying to prepare for the worst.

As an adoptive mom of 3 kids, I want to say congratulations.

Yes there are ups and downs, however it is so worth it. Even if the adoption doesn't work, you will always know you gave that little one the best care while in your home. In 6 years of fostering, we had 23 kids go through out home. Two we would have loved to adopt besides the 3 we did, however it didn't work out. They both went to good homes though and while in our care were loved to bits.

As foster/adopt parents that all you can do and if you have a strong faith, pray.
