I have a friend with a front loader, and she isn't happy with hers either. I thought I wanted one, but guess not. When my washer gave up, I bought a used Maytag top loader. from someone that was cleaning out her aunt's house after she died. Fifty dollars.
The thing just won't quit lol!! Really old washer.

Sorry to hear that you hate your front loader. It does sound like you got a dud.
I also have a Kenmore, it's about 6 years old now and I've not had any trouble with it. I do leave the door open when not in use as I have heard that unless the drain is in the exact correct position, water will pool in the bottom of the machine, causing the dread mildewy smell.
I must admit that I never care for my washer, it hasn't been serviced, cleaned around the gasket, or run empty to clean internally... ever. I love mine, it sure does a great job of washing the clothes and has fantastic features. My only gripe is that on high or medium-high spin it will spin creases into my pants and I have to iron more. Blah.
A co-worker just bought a high efficiency top loader because she was afraid of the drainage issue. She loves hers!
I suppose this really is about research and patience when choosing a model. I wish you better luck with your next washer!

I know SO many people that are unhappy with their front loaders. I have a wealthy friend that literally put her matching front loading washer and dryer to the curb because she was so unhappy! She had had them serviced multiple times and had nothing but problems with them. I don't remember the brand but they were highly recommend by Consumer Reports (I do remember that because that made her mad too!).
She went out and bought a top loading washing and a regular dryer. I will stick with my regular washer and dryer also. They are eight years old and I have never had a problem with them.Mary

could you call the manufacturs 1800 number? If my company was puting out something that was so frustrating I'd be trying to make it right...maybe try that and see. At this point, it couldnt' hurt, just be the squeeky wheel.

I hated my front loader set so much that I sold it on Craigslist and bought the old-fashioned kind. I figure that it might not be the most energy efficient but neither is me having to was and re-wash my clothes because they aren't clean enough. Sorry ou're going through all this hassle.

It does better when I run bleach through it, but it's constant work.
I might try to sell it and buy a top loader again. Will see.

I have an oversize Kenmore. I love it! The only time there is a smell is if the kids forget to leave the door open a crack. I had to leave my toploader open too. It's not a design flaw, it the fact that the drain is never void of water.
That said not all machines are created equal. I routinely clean out around the gasket, little socks get stuck in there. Or bits of paper. When I do that I give it a good wipe in case anything else is collecting there. Sometimes there is a little grit.
I would never go back to a top load machine.

We had a rubber gasket problem with our frigidaire we bought, we did not have the extended service plan & of course the gasket started to dissolve after we owned it 13 months. We replaced the gasket ($125) & it lasted a few months & then started dissolving again. I was so frustrated with it - we had a cheap washer before that, the front loader was the first thing I bougt us when I started working again and the cheap washer worked SO much better! We ended up buying a LG front loader to replace the frigidaire & we LOVE it. We have had it 3 years and I do ALOT of laundry.
