Sorry things aren't going well with your dishwasher. I liked the idea to wash by hand and let them dry in the dishwasher. And I also want to get a whole house filter for our water -- our water is horrible too.

We have a GE dishwasher that does this from time to time. Do you have spinning arms that shoot out water? After thinking about it a while, I took out those arms and found that food particles had clogged the holes in the arms. Using pipe cleaners, I was able to get the junk out. Baby bottle/nipple cleaner brushes would probably work well for this too. The dishwasher works great after the cleaning.

i am glad I saw this post. I had the same problem and then it just makes a noise. No water. I never thought about looking for filters, etc. I am going to see if this is the problem before I look to buy another one. I had it about a year and it died. I hope we both get this dishwasher problem fixed.

    Default Dishwasher information...

Older dishwashers have food filters to prevent damage to the pumps. Manufacturers changed the design because people were forgetting to clean the filters and it would generate repair calls and lower customer satisfaction with their product. Their work-around was to make the pumps like minigarbage disposals which would grindup the pieces of food. This took care of the food problem but a new problem arose. The stickers that are put on fruits and vegetables are getting past this system and now are plugging the spray holes on the arms. I just finished removing the arms on mine and found 35 stickers. Once they were removed the diswasher, a front loading 10year old Maytag worked perfect again. It is worth checking. Good luck.

That sucks about your dishwasher. I wish we had one to hate considering they save so much time and energy . Hope you can get it sorted out at minimal cost.

a while ago there was a thread on here about a product called Lemi-Shine. On a whim, I bought some at Target because I've had major issues with hard water "spots." I tell you, and I'm not being paid for this, it has made all the difference in the world and totally gotten rid of the problem! The whole inside of the dishwasher even looks sparkly clean.

If you do have to get a new dishwasher, you could always check craigslist. People are always giving away dishwashers because they upgraded their kitchen. It may not match the rest of your appliances, but it would be free.

I also hate my dishwasher, but it still works for the most part. It's a Hotpoint, like the rest of the appliances. They were in the house when I moved in, and the only thing I like is the stove. The dishwasher and fridge are awful. I guess the microwave is ok.

I've had my dishwasher since I bought the house. I've no idea how old it is, but it works fine. It's an Inglis and it serves its purpose. The only issue I have is that even if I rinse the dishes, something gets clogged and I end up having to cut the power to the line to clean out the hose. It's a simple detach, add baking soda and vinegar and boiling water thing, but it's a pain in the rear. I've had to do it three times so far and I'm not sure if it's the dishwasher's fault or if it's the garbage disposal.

I use the Cascade all-in-one things and I've noticed some water spots and some staining, but that's an easy rinse in the sink and a dry with a dish towel. I guess the air dry function on it doesn't work so well when I have a full load.

We use Lemi-Shine as well. Actually, the salesman where we bought our new one suggested that. So far, we haven't had any problems.

I'll vouch for the lemi-shine. Great stuff.... and it smells good, too! I know this is an old thread, and also you were battling a machine that made weird noises. If it's just a hard water problem, Lemi-shine does the trick.

I'm sorry to hear that! I had troubles with my fridge's ice maker last year and I was looking around online for some information on what might be wring and I came across Partselect.com

If you enter in your dishwasher's model number the site will pull up all the information for your model and you click on what is wrong with your dishwasher. They suggest parts and even tell you how to do the repair yourself which saves a lot of money. But yea I still don't own a dishwasher and spend about 30 minutes or more every evening just washing dishes by hand. It's not so bad
