    Default Bread machine

My Welbilt is starting to give us problems (paddle mechanism is starting to seize up and we've been able to fix a few times now but the end is probably near) and I'm researching a replacement now. What kind of ABM do you have, how often do you use it, what do you usually make and would you buy that brand again?

    I'm leaning towards this one:

    [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-SD-YD250-Automatic-Bread-Maker/dp/B00005QFL0"]Amazon.com: Panasonic SD-YD250 Automatic Bread Maker: Kitchen & Dining@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31ZNX2B4ZWL.@@AMEPARAM@@31ZNX2B4ZWL[/ame]

Thanks! Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

I have a Black & Decker Horizontal Deluxe BM.

I hear people really like it and some don't> I personally make a better loaf of bread in the oven BUT I think that's because I don't understand how to make a good loaf of bread in the machine...there's a skill to that LOL!

I have a cheap ol' sunbeam that 7 or 8 years old. It is awesome.

Next one will be a Cuisinart, but thats just because I like the way they look. The Sunbeam was only $29.00.

My husband got it at Costco for I think around $70 for my bday. I use it a couple times a week. I mostly make oatmeal bread, granola bread etc. I love it!

I have a Hitachi that was a gift back in 1995 or so. Hitachi HBC103 220 volt 680watts Bread Maker Bakes various Loaf sizes-Regular, Large, Two Shade It makes a good loaf, for a bread machine. I used it several times a year, mostly to make pizza dough in, which I would bake in the oven. I have had to buy a new paddle for it, as somehow it gets scratched and once the teflon starts to rub off you don't want it in your food.

I just got a Kitchenaid stand mixer for christmas and I am thinking the breadmaker's useful lifespan is over now. I can make much better bread from scratch in the mixer.

If I had it to do over again I suppose I would choose this bread machine, as it worked reliably and made a decent loaf. The one you have chosen has good ratings, however be sure you read the negative ones, too.

This is the one I got for Christmas. Kind of expensive though. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-SD-RD250-Automatic-Dispenser-finish/dp/B0044WWC7E/ref=sr_1_17?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1294256425&sr=1-17"]Amazon.com: Panasonic SD-RD250 Automatic Bread Maker with Fruit/Nut Dispenser, White finish: Kitchen & Dining@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31IPCtw4d8L.@@AMEPARAM@@31IPCtw4d8L[/ame] So far I love it. I use it about 2 times a week. My son lost the paddle on my old one, it was probably 10 years old, still works ok, but was beginning to squeak and was pretty large. I couldn't find the paddle that would work on it. Maybe one of the universal ones.

Yes you can make good bread with your mixer, but for me the bread machine is just so much easier. Measure the ingrediants press a button and go. You don't have to worry about your kitchen being too cold for the bread to rise correctly and don't have to fool with it at all.

with that said, I do occasionally use my Kitchenaid to make bread, but only when I have plenty of time and feel like spending the effort.

Ok then maybe you can recommend a fool proof small loaf recipe for me?? It seems my bm can't handle anything with more than a couple cups flour or it rises out of the machine!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Sunbeam (2lb. Expressbake) --not sure of model # but I like it and though they have changed this model....it has been a good one and I would buy a Sunbeam again.

It is probably ten years old and I don't use it every week but the average is probably once or twice a month.......(I run in 'streaks')....so not heavy use but it has been a good one.

One reason or PLUS I do like is that I can go smaller with the loaf or make the full 2 lb. loaf.........one DRAWBACK.......oblong mixing pan and I DO have to watch it to make sure the paddle picks up all the flour when first mixing.............but it makes decent bread. No other problems.
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

FF, I have a Sunbeam as well and sounds like ours is pretty close to the same. It was one of the cheaper ones out there, but I've been really happy with mine. So far everything has turned out great.

We have a Zojirushi, which was kind of expensive, but we wanted it because the motor is strong enough to use home-ground wheat. We've been very pleased.
