What blender do you have?
I'm in the market for a blender that will give the most bang for not a huge buck. I need something that does great with ice and frozen solid fruit for smoothies. Preferrably with a glass carafe. What do you have, how long have you had it and has it served you well?

I would not recommend mine for price but for quality it is incredible. Back in the non-frugal days, my ex-husband and I bought a $500 Vitamix at the Western Ontario Fair in London. I guess I have had this thing for 9 years. It is guaranteed for life. I had one mishap with the carafe, and I sent it back to the company and they promptly sent me a new one. It came with two carafes, one for wet ingredients and on for dry. This thing is so powerful that it will grind grains into flour (not that I ever do that.) I make iced coffee with it every single morning of my life and have since the day I got it. I doubt I would spend that much money on a small appliance now, but if you can get your hands on one second hand it would be well worth it.

I have a black & decker blender. I just bought it for $25. I haven't used it for ice yet, but there is a button for crushing ice. It also has a glass jar.

~I have an Oster, also. It's a metal drive with ice crush. It also came with a smoothie attachment. Mostly I use it for smoothies, purees, cream soups and breadcrumbs. Mine is about 4 years old and I think is used moderately often.(1-2 times a week) If I remember correctly, I paid under $30 for it at Walmart.~

$400 Vitamix blender here too. These days I mostly make hummus with it. You can make a frozen ice-cream style dessert with it and you can even make soup in it. Heats and chills right in the blender, its pretty cool.

I bought an Oster Classic Beehive blender

$58.95 or something to that effect. Already made smoothies tonight lol...Thanks for the brand suggestions!! This thing is sturdy. The only thing I dislike is there are no locking mechanisms to keep the carafe in place, it just sets down in there.Last edited by mickee311; 08-19-2007 at 11:29 PM.

I have an Osterizer that I'd love to throw in the garbage. It is noisy and doesn't do a good job on frozen fruit. It starts out really loud, and then starts making screeching noises. It seems to oscillate in how fast it blends. I guess I really need to take it in to be repaired. We've only had it a few years. It's always operated like that. I should have returned it right away. It was a waste of $70, imho.

I bought a low-end Oster, then a low end Black & Decker. Had bad luck with both. I really only use my blender for cream soups ... not like it gets a work-out. But next time, I think I'll spend a little more and get something food-service grade.
