View Full Version : Question - Why are my mashed potatoes runny?

About 2 weeks ago I made 3 dinners of stuffed peppers and 2 dinners of meatloaf. I also made enough mashed potatoes to go with all and froze in meal size portions.

A couple of days ago, didn't feel like cooking so I took out some stuffed peppers and mashed potatoes. Stuffed peppers were fine but the mashed potatoes had ALOT of water! What did I do wrong? I make my mashed potatoes with butter and whole milk, did I possibly put too much milk in? They tasted fine, but I had to pour off the excess water as I was reheating in the microwave. I suppose if I reheated on the stove it would have cooked off.

TIA

Did some ice crystals get in while in the freezer ?
They will seperate while frozen, make sure you stir them well..

Yes they did Lori, thanks. Now I have a foodsaver hopefully that won't happen again.

Me either, i was just thinking if they have ice buildup then there is that extra water to go with the milk that is in it. so cutting back just a bit should be perfect. ;)

:bump:

I make large batches of mashed potatoes and freeze them. It's hit or miss - sometimes they're a bit more liquidy and I have to pour a bit of the excess off and other times the reheating in the microwave takes care of all the liquid.
