View Full Version : No one in my family understands
mrscornbread 11-17-2002, 12:56 PM I quit smoking on January 3, 2002. That is almost 11 months ago. HUGE accomplishment for me!I had a mole growing on my forehead and went to the doctor, he said it was skin cancer. Not the kind you die from, but I heard the "Big C" word and threw my cigarettes in the trash can and quit cold turkey. I can't believe I had the will power to quit but I did. The bad part about all of this is that I started out fluffy before I quit smoking. I just traded one bad habit for another and ate an additional 18-20 pounds on. The other night I was laying in my bed and I felt so huge I couldnt even sleep. I told my husband, he just said I still love you. I have decided to go cold turkey on candy (i love chocolate). I have also tri4d to just change the way i eat. After some self-reflection I have realized that I am also addicted to carbs. I dont know if I have lost any weight, but i feel better. For about five days I have not eated any sweets, some meat much salad and lots of coffee and diet pepsi. If anyone has any real life help I could use it...
~Sherry~ 11-17-2002, 01:48 PM I just wanted to say I'm proud of you for all of the things you are accomplishing.
voodidit 11-17-2002, 01:56 PM I just want to applaud you for showing such strength. I know it's going to be hard to stick with it at times but you can do it. I think you are already going at it the right way. Once you have gone without the sweets for awhile your body will quit craving them. At least that's how it worked for me.

heaven 11-17-2002, 02:01 PM Have you tried reading the Akins Diet, it is low carb. I need to get back on it. MY mom has lost 75 lbs. on it, not even a year yet, and she has always been heavy. I am like you need motovation and some one who understands it. Congrads on all you have accomplished. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: i know for me it is drinking water, i know i have to force my self to drink water.
mrscornbread 11-17-2002, 03:30 PM Thanks for listening everyone. I will look at library for Adkins diet book, I have heard some negatives, like high fat food, but some things I have heard I like. Im going to drink some water right now. Does anyone have the book and would share what a day of eating is like?
MJsLady 11-17-2002, 03:35 PM I have lots of books but not that one. I tried it once but quit, it was to difficult I think. I want an eating plan for the whole family, dh is santa with salt and pepper hair, I am 68lbs over goal, ds1 is fine just needs toning and ds2 is a rail fence!
I want to find (or create) a healthy plan we can all enjoy withut guilt!:D

homesteadmamma 11-17-2002, 09:48 PM Wow Lori, I wish I had a sister like that.
I do have an adopted sister (she knows who) that I think of like that.
Robin, in any weight loss, I think the best way and only way is to cut back, stop eating junk food or snacks and drink lots and lots of water. I'm down 24 lbs. that way and although I have lots to go, I'm feeling really good about my weight loss.
I'm proud of you for what you've accomplished so far. You can do it along with the rest of us. Thats why were here and why we have this weight loss forum. Were here to help each other and I for one am glad your here!!
