In order to keep your bank happy, to not have any NSF checks and to see that there isn't any over charges, you need to balance your checkbook when the bank statement comes.
Do you?

Do you? debbiepete 12-05-2002, 10:57 AM Hubby and I made a deal I did the checkbook for the first 15 years and he would do it for the next 15. When it was his time he bought quicken that automatically does it. Michelle 12-05-2002, 11:16 AM No....:( can you believe Dave is an accountant? I was so good about balancing it down to the penny before we started sharing our money. Kimmomo3 12-05-2002, 11:18 AM Yes, I am the quicken goddess. SewCrafty 12-05-2002, 11:40 AM I take care of the bills now. I do have Quicken, but haven't used it in a couple of years. So, NO, I don't balance my checkbook regularly. jettsmom 12-05-2002, 11:55 AM I usually balance the check book. One time I had 3 months worth of statements. What a mess. I'm doing better now. Maybe that should be on my "to do" list today. Dedlered 12-05-2002, 12:03 PM I balance weekly with the help of online statements, It helps keep me on the straight and narrow justjenn 12-05-2002, 01:13 PM I hate to admit that I don't. I should, though. Patchworkgirl 12-05-2002, 01:33 PM I balance it to the penny, every month. I'm a bookkeeper, and it's my nature....lol. I couldn't sleep if my account was not balanced. summercat 12-05-2002, 04:04 PM I balance it once every month. lucy979 12-05-2002, 04:32 PM I keep up with it by online statements. Much easier than waiting for the statements in the mail. Mom23boys 12-06-2002, 12:48 AM I balance every week too with online checking. seadream 12-06-2002, 11:12 AM I check it online at least once a week heaven 12-06-2002, 11:13 AM I don't have one. so no need to balance. AmyBoz 12-07-2002, 03:04 PM We're pretty anal about writing everything down in the checkbook and checking our math a thousand times, so we don't sit down and balance it against the bank every month, however, we do use Microsoft Money, and every few months, dh will use the online bank website, the statements and Money to balance it all out. There are rarely errors, and the only omissions are the interest payments we get at the end of each month on our checking account, so it's always in our favor. I LOVE Microsoft Money because it really helps to show where we are spending our money. I am also the Comptroller for my school, and I use it there as well. cmu 12-08-2002, 11:18 AM I use Quicken...and I love it. I do an actuall "Balance" once a month with the statement..but I double check the balance every couple of days with the online statement. Phaedrae 12-08-2002, 12:14 PM I actually balance mine nightly to the online register that the bank keeps couponchic 06-08-2003, 09:40 PM I balance each month when the bank statement comes in the mail. For the first time, the bank has screwed up and charged me $2 that I would not have realized had I not balanced each month. It may only be $2, but if they did that each month, and I never reconciled, then I would be giving them $24 a year for no good reason. Besides, it only takes about 10 minutes to reconcile a month. pamy 06-09-2003, 02:01 PM I balance mine within a few days of receiving it. And I balance to the penny. |
