Came home today and found a kitten in our apartment complex parking lot--there are alot of huge wild/stray cats out there, and obviously one of the big guys had knocked this baby around pretty hard-back leg badly hurt, infected, crying. Brought him in (Dh was a very good sport about it) then called 5 different animal shelters looking too get him cared for-none of which were open at 5:15 p.m.-no emergency numbers, nothing. Finally got in touch with state ASPCA who put me in touch with a private rescue place who then accused me of owning this cat and just wanting to get rid of it! Is it a problem elsewhere that there is nowhere available to deal with homeless and injured animals beyond bankers hours? Eventually the township police department was able to put me in touch with a rescue person 3 towns away who secured vet care, but I could not beleive the reaction that I received trying to do what I thought would be a fairly simple deed. Anyone have similiar issue?

We have animal control in our city that will come out 24 hours a day, but they take them to the Humane Society and I won't do that....soooooo.... I have a friend that will take animals in...then they find homes for them....he takes mostly dogs but will take cats if there is a need....I can not tell you the amount of money that he spends caring for these animals...its take someone with a BIG heart to do this.... I wish I could take them all in...I can't stand to see them neglected and abused...

You did a good deed...be proud of it....its sad that the world has forgotten that animals have as much right on this planet that we do and should be cared for as such.... I hope the little kitty found a good home and is still loved today... :)

Yes Jerseygirl. Alot of people would have just left the little kitten. You did a great thing by helping it. Right now it is probably living the life of luxury, playing with some kids... all because of you. :)

If I were you I would write a letter to the editor of your local paper. You did a wonderful thing and I applaud you. I'm sorry you were treated like a criminal from your simple (?) act of kindness. Hugs!

Good for you !!!! We had a similar problem a couple years ago.... a cat had kittens in the wood pile...dh collected them in a box, it took him 2 hours to catch the female...he had to trap her in the shed.... We took them (during business hours to the local spca and they said the same thing....wanted us to pay $75.00 for them to take them..... We went to wagon tails and they took them no problem..... They make me so
