View Full Version : Can you get into your wedding dress?
homesteadmamma 12-09-2002, 07:18 PM I'm laughing here because we eloped and I just had a simple white dress that I couldn't get into after my first one was born and still can't get into it. It seems all the rolls and new curves everywhere just don't go with the dress.
How about you?
bamamomto4 12-09-2002, 07:20 PM ummm NO!
aylasmommy 12-09-2002, 07:43 PM I sold mine, but I'm sure it would be too big since I've lost about 4 dress sizes since we were married.
Michelle 12-09-2002, 07:53 PM I wish! I've gone up 3 sizes since then
bamamomto4 12-09-2002, 07:56 PM Same here Michelle!! :(
wiseone418 12-09-2002, 09:02 PM just got married 8 months ago so yes i can
Sara Noel 12-09-2002, 10:32 PM I didn't wear a dress. I wore a women's tuxedo. I could still fit in it before pregnancy, but now? ummm no. LOL
Sara
SewCrafty 12-10-2002, 09:40 AM Big NO for me too! :D
captclearance 12-10-2002, 10:19 AM I didn't have a wedding dress...... We eloped too.......
mommy2three 12-10-2002, 10:31 AM seeing as my wedding dress was a size 3/4 and i've had 2 kids and another on the way.....and before i got pregnant this time i was wearing about an 8, i would think the answer is a BIG NO!!! i don't think i could fit one leg in it now!!!:( :(
seadream 12-11-2002, 10:59 AM I don't have a "real Wedding dress" but yes, I can still fit into the one that I wore back then
debbiepete 12-11-2002, 11:05 AM NOO my dress was a 14 and I'm a 7 now!!
Lori Biever-Launder 12-13-2002, 12:20 AM Ummm, noooooo!
Tiantian26 01-19-2009, 02:46 AM I can not help laughing!
Well, a healthy mind is in a healthy body!
Come on!
Siebrie 01-19-2009, 04:59 AM I was 8 months pregnant when we got married, so YES I can.
Momto2Boyz 01-19-2009, 07:52 AM I got mine out this past summer, trying to decide what to do with it. So for kicks, I tried it on! It fit, well everything except the bust! I chose not to have it altered before my wedding, and so the bust was a little big on it, well now, after 2 kids, the bust is way too small! But I was able to zip it up, so that made me happy!
Megareader 01-19-2009, 08:10 AM 23 years ago when we got married I weighed 94 pounds. Now I weigh...more. So there is no way in you-know-where I could fit in that dress today!
MoonMommy 01-19-2009, 08:20 AM I haven't tried, but since I am about 20 lbs heavier since I got married, it is highly doubtful.
AmyBoz 01-19-2009, 08:59 AM Hmmm...not sure. Looking at my wedding pictures, I'm going to have to say, "NO!" But, I'm working on it!
57plymouth 01-19-2009, 09:07 AM No, but I look funny in a dress anyway.
KKCondrey 01-19-2009, 09:33 AM Currently at 7+ months pregnant I doubt it...lol but I am intrigued now, so who knows a couple months from now when I have the baby and drop the weight I might try it on as I am still trying to decided whether to keep it or sell it. It's been boxed up since we got married in 2002 but looking at wedding photos I am honestly not sure if it would have fit before I got pregnant this last time or not......If I remember a few months from now I'll see and post again....lol
dwallyfam 01-19-2009, 09:40 AM NO way. I was 98 pounds when I got married. Lets just say I have gained a few in 23 years.
IntlMom 01-19-2009, 09:54 AM Here's a funny story:
in 1989 I was engaged to get married, I was 19 and weighed about 150 pounds. I found this dress I loved, we bought it...and....well.....the wedding (thankfully) never happened to that guy.
SO
the dress stayed in the bag at the house untill 1992, when, at age 22 and 130 pounds, I actually got married to dh. Well, I loved loved LOVED the dress that I had bought 3 years ago, and so, well, I wore it for my wedding!!! (some ppl are totally appauled at that!) It was a very ornately beaded dress, and having it altered was nearly impossible, but at 20 pounds lighter than when I bought it, it was too big (mostly too long, since I had less curves to give it "fullness" it hung more on me). So, my solution??? I got the super most highest heels I could find and that I could keep my balance in :) and wore those with it.....it helped, and though the dress was still technically too long...it "worked".
So would my dress fit today?? Well, I am now around 135ish, so technically, it would fit, I suppose.
The Muse 01-19-2009, 09:56 AM I sure can! It's even a little looser now :)
QuarterPounder 01-19-2009, 10:27 AM I was married in a pair of wranglers and a t-shirt and boots!!!!!
I still have the boots, just had them resoled!
However, I do still wear the same size pants, so had I not ruined those pants playing with horses, I'm sure they'd fit!!
BlessedMomof2 01-19-2009, 10:31 AM My wedding dress would actually be big on me. I was pregnant with our second child when we got married. And I've managed to lose all the weight from both pregnancies since getting married.
fernykins 01-19-2009, 12:42 PM I wish......... I was 17 and wore a size 3 and that was 35 years a go..........My mother made mine.

ilovechocolate 01-19-2009, 02:37 PM I might could fit one leg into it.
stinkbug 01-19-2009, 02:43 PM Yup....still fits
beks37 01-19-2009, 02:44 PM I was 110lbs then, so when I'm done with this Lose A Pound A Week challenge I will most likely be able to fit into it. But I will never know because it is locked up (preserved) and in a box.
Neeley 01-19-2009, 02:53 PM My dress is a size zero that was still too big. We had to have it taken in everywhere so it would stay on.
I still have it, all preserved and in the closet. I would never part with it. I had hoped my daughter could wear my dress, but she is way too tall for it. I am five foot even and at 15 she is already five foot six or seven. Oh well, it's always there incase she wants to have it "remade" into a dress that will suit her.
I don't think I will be getting back into it. Two kids and 17 years have added a little to the 18 inch waist I once had, making it a little tough to fit my dress.
strezzed 06-07-2009, 08:48 PM Yup, still fits like a glove.
Radish4ever 06-07-2009, 09:42 PM I didn't do a traditional wedding dress - we got married at the courthouse and I just used a dress that I happened to order a few weeks before that and hadn't worn yet ;)
If I was not pregnant, I'd still fit in it....right before I got pregnant, I was down to a lower weight (Thank you Spark People!) and could fit into all sorts of clothes I could wear when I first got married!
calimomx2 06-07-2009, 10:10 PM 24 years and 2 kids later..........NO WAY! I am hoping to get back there very soon though! :)
annymoll 06-07-2009, 10:23 PM I can fit in it through the hips and waist, but not the bustline.Thank you, Dr. Puckett!
Debbie-cat 06-07-2009, 10:29 PM My wedding dress was thrown in the garbage the night of the wedding. :D During the reception myself and my maid of honor and bridesmaid walked through our pond and went on ride through the mud trail on wheelers. :D There wasn't much left by the end of the evening!
Mom23boys 06-07-2009, 10:33 PM Nope! I went up two dress sizes since then. That was 22 years ago and before 3 kids.
monkeywrangler71 06-07-2009, 11:31 PM I think it would be too big now, but I'm gradually working my way back into it.
Dixie 06-07-2009, 11:47 PM No! That was almost 32 years ago, four kids and a few pounds ago. :(
MaryCarney 06-08-2009, 01:15 PM Ditto Dixie,
Four children and 33 years later!
It fits my 14 year old pretty well, though!!
nuisance26 06-08-2009, 03:59 PM My wedding dress was thrown in the garbage the night of the wedding. :D During the reception myself and my maid of honor and bridesmaid walked through our pond and went on ride through the mud trail on wheelers. :D There wasn't much left by the end of the evening!
~Oh my goodness that sounds like fun!!!
Seeing this thread got me curious so I just had to dig out my dress and try it on. It's a silk charmuese sheath so I was thinking it was unlikely. It zipped up!! Amazing!
I got married in 2000 and have had 2 kids.
I'm just so surprised.~
I have my all boxed and preserved in my storage room. I don't really know why I'm keeping it other than sentimental reasons. Perhaps my daughters will want some material off it for their wedding dresses or something for the 'something old'. Who knows.
...And no I'm sure I wouldn't be able to fit in it. Now that I've lost weight I'm 2 lbs over my 'wedding weight', but my body has changed a lot in 10 years and after having 2 kids. My boobs are bigger, my belly is stretched and bigger and I wouldn't waste my time seeing that it doesn't fit. A little too depressing, IMO.
frugalwarrior 06-12-2009, 10:27 PM Of course not. I've done a lot of living in 24 years this July. Two kids,2 houses, many stresses later. My DD fit into it at ten.I gave it to goodwill last week. Maybe someone can get some use out of it. I only paid $175. for it new anyway.
Sassyclass 06-13-2009, 12:30 AM I'd better, I need it for next Saturday.:D
Cat
LadyWicky 06-21-2009, 12:24 AM Nope, I can't, but in a good way. LOL!
My wedding was almost a year ago and I've lost almost 30 lbs since then. So, needless to say, even though it's a corset back, it doesn't really fit me anymore. And after all the problems I had getting that dress, it kinda makes me sad...I wish it would go down in size with me LOL!!!
