Having smaller amounts and STOPPING when full. My dd exemplifies this in her eating habits. She always ends up with something left over on her plate or even when she snacks. She only has small amounts and even then, when she is full, she stops!!
Its something I think we probably all need to learn. I sometimes find it difficult in doing this because of my frugality I hate waste. I need to learn though, that is better to leave some than to eat after I'm full.

I totally agree, i find eating when i am hungry too is a big thing, and not when i am bored or tired or sad,or what ever. If i could do that then i would get full. I am starving now. LOL

A good rule of thumb my doctor told me is to eat slow. When you eat fast, you don't give your body a chance to tell you it's full until it's too late and you're stuffed. So, that's the first thing I am going to do.

I did hear somewhere it's a good idea to stop eating when you are simply no longer *hungry but yet not *full..because of the 20 min rule leiloni mentioned, that you'll get full later..of course for me if I am still hungry 20 min later I let myself have another 1/4 of a sandwhich or a peice of fruit or veggies :)
I also don't like how I was raised to eat at a certain time and made to feel bad for not taking seconds kwim? Because sometimes you just aren't hungry but eat because you are programmed to eat at that time..or out of guilt because you don't want to hurt someone's feelings, or because you think you are wasting food..
Stopping when you don't need to eat but have more on the plate is a very good idea. Although I do save my leftovers for snacks later in the day. Or for a small meal for the next day.

I need to learn to eat slow. I have a 30 minute lunch break and am always eatting fast because I know I have to go get my class from the lunchroom. I hate being late and am usually early getting there. I am going to take my time and stop when I feel full. I have a bad habit of cleaning my plate even if I am full.

I am not so concerned with wasting food. My main problem is that when I find something I like to eat, I just keep eating it. I end up eating way too much of something. \
If I could only get back to writing down and keeping track of my portions and keeping with the norm that a person should eat.
