I love it! 2 days ago I finally received the canning jar sealers in the mail. I haven't tried them out yet. A couple of ladies said they couldn't get them to seal properly. As soon as I try them out, I will let you know how they work. yolo 12-30-2002, 09:51 AM I was lucky enough to get one for Christmas. I love it so far. I also ordered the sealers for the wide-mouth and regular size mason jars. I can't wait to get them in the mail. After Christmas dinner, I sealed up four packages of ham and put them in the fridge for future dinners. My husband and son did some jerky the other day, and we sealed it up after it was done. Mine is a Tilia Food Saver, and it is very easy to use. So, far I just love mine. I have a lot of food stored in glass jars in my cupboard, and I am very anxious to try out the jar sealers. I would love to hear some feedback too. Yolo halo475 12-30-2002, 11:04 AM I have had mine for about a year now. I really like it. The bags are the best. The only thing about the bags is that you waste about an inch of them everytime you reuse them, but overall they are great!! The canisters don't stay sealed for me either. They seem to stay sealed in the fridge when I use them for tossed salad (by far the most money saving aspect of it for me). But they don't seem to stay sealed in the pantry for a long period of time. The jar sealer has the same problem, but I get around that by putting the ring that comes with canning jars on after I seal it and that seems to help. But i would not use it for long term storage. I use the bags for anything that I store long term-like spices etc. Overall I am happy with the Food Saver, but am disappointed with the canisters and jars for storing in the pantry. It works the best for leftovers in the freezer, because when you unseal and heat and eat, it tastes just like you made it fresh. I have sealed sliced cheese for the freezer and that works well too. You have to be careful when sealing soft items as they tend to crush-I prefreeze individually and then vacuum seal. hth grneyegrl 12-30-2002, 09:15 PM i have one and love it.. i use it mostly for my freezer, and the cheese i buy at bjs.. i find it saves me a great deal of money. i did\so have a problem ithe bags u sealing in the frezzer..is it because they are being punctured.. we dont have a lot of space and things get moved around a great deal Mom23boys 12-30-2002, 09:49 PM My mom has one and I want one too. She uses hers for the freezer. She grows a garden each year and uses it to freeze her vegetables. She swears by it. yolo 01-02-2003, 10:03 PM I got my jar sealers in the mail today. I tried the regular size jar sealer with all my jars I had stuff in in my pantry. Everything sealed fine. I love this thing. Someone else wrote in earlier that they didn't seem to stay sealed, so I will be checking my in a couple of days to be sure. yolo yolo 01-10-2003, 09:56 PM Just letting you gals know that I checked my jars, and they are all still vacuum sealed. So far, the jar sealers are working great for me. Just thought I would let you know. yolo halo475 01-10-2003, 10:38 PM LOL you must have been reading my mind!! I was just wondering about this today!! Glad that they have stayed sealed!! yolo 01-11-2003, 05:17 PM halo475: I sort of used your suggestion. Instead of the rings, I used the screw tops that you can buy. I am not sure if you have seen them, but Wal-Mart carries them. They are white and you use it as a lid after you have opened up your canned goods. I used them for the storage of dry foods in the cupboards. When you suggested using the rings, I thought what a great idea. I sealed up the jars and put on the white lids. So far, so good. Thanks for the suggesion. yolo yolo 01-13-2003, 10:31 AM Mine is a Tilia FoodSaver 1075. I think the price is around $129. If you want to seal jars with it, you need to watch what you buy, as some of them do not have the vacuum port on them. To seal jars, you need the little hole on the outside of the machine that you place a hose in and the other end of the hose goes into the jar sealer top. Just something to keep in mind if you wanted to do jars. yolo scrappycat 01-13-2003, 12:33 PM I have the Tilia 1050 that I got at Target, I think it was around $130-$150. I love it! I use mostly canning jars, since they are reusable. I seal everything. I seal yeast, cheese, homemade bread, leftovers, pantry items, chopped produce, practically everything in my freezer is sealed. We had some leftover pizza from the week before Christmas in the freezer that I had sealed. Had it yesterday and it tasted like it was just delivered. I also reseal a lot of things in their original jars, like olives, salsa, applesauce, and more, it keeps them fresher in the fridge. Katybird 01-14-2003, 10:33 AM I am so glad to hear all the positive reviews also. I am allowing myself and DH one frugal treat each with tax refund this year and the rest into savings, I had set a limit of $100 each for us with the stipulation that it had to be something that would save money for us in the long run not something frivilous. I am sticking to that but I am not sure how DH will do. I have some b'day money tucked away I will add to my $100 and I am going to purchase the food saver. I am so excited. Thanks for all the information ladies. Y'all are the greatest! Blessings, Kathy aprilsmom32 02-02-2003, 08:38 PM I don't have one either, but I am eyeing the one they have at sam's I think it is the 750 - for 150 and it comes with lots of extras. I don't know if I am allowed to post this here but they have a group over at Yahoo that is just for foodsaver's. Tilia seems to be the best brand overall, missytata 02-27-2003, 01:06 AM I just bought the Foodsaver 750 from Sams and I LOVE it!!! My husband even asks if he can seal the bags, like it a game or something! :D We haven't tried any of the extras that came with it, but we already thing it was well worth the money. We also bought it just in time. Like Katybird, we decided to buy something that would help us be more frugal, (we were already buying reduced price meats, but lately it seemed that they were getting frezzer burned) so we got a food saver and a deep freezer. When I went to Wal-Mart on Sunday, they had ground beef for $0.58/lb! I bought 40 lbs. Needless to say, all I have been doing for the past 4 days is cooking and freezing. Sorry for such a long post, but I just wanted to let you know that I love my foodsaver! :D missytata 02-27-2003, 01:25 AM I just bought the Foodsaver 750 from Sams and I LOVE it!!! I bought the Tillia foodsaver 540 and it came with the wide mouth mason jar sealer, a canister, a canning jar, a universal lid, the accessory hose, 1 roll of 11 in bags, some quart bags, and a tape about it. I have used it for lots of leftovers and I have used it reseal potato chip bags too. A friend of mine told me about using it to reseal chip bags, works great. I have not watched the tape that came with it yet but I am sure that it probably has some great ideas on it too. yolo 03-12-2003, 10:05 AM Katybird: Congratulations! Have fun with your new Food Saver. I watched the tape, and it is good. Have fun! yolo bamamomto4 03-12-2003, 10:21 AM I still don't have one.I'd liike to get one before summer to seal veggies....We'll see! Thanks for all the feedback!! You have to be careful when sealing soft items as they tend to crush-I prefreeze individually and then vacuum seal. hth I've had mine several years now, and in fact now have two! I found that my older version (550, I think?) sealed just great, but didn't work for the canisters and crushed softer things. I bought a newer one and find that the canisters seal extremely well now.... have no clue why that is! I also like that I can manually stop the sealing process whenever I want to keep the bread from crushing, although I do sometimes freeze in advance as well. I absolutely LOVE the Food Saver, and use it almost everyday. To mitigate the problem of losing an inch per use, I make the first bag I use huge, so that I might lose an inch, but only an inch. Yes, I wash out and reuse! Not for raw meat or really messy things, though, although I know some people do. Have fun!
