...which do you prefer and why?

I prefer crochet. It seems to work up faster and I like it alot. I have only made one scarf by knitting and a couple of doll blankets, but it seems like they took a long time compared to the crochet ones I did.
But that may be because I crochet on a regular basis and only knit once in awhile!!:D

I like both Michelle. Crochet seems to go faster for me (I finish the project sooner) but I can knit pretty fast too. I actually haven't hand knit anything in a couple of years.

That wasn't much help was it?? ;)

I usually crochet afghans, rugs, and baby things. And I knit sweaters for myself and dh, hats and mittens and baby things. I have never attempted to hand knit an afghan I do these on my machine. I don't have the patience to complete something that big, I know I would never finish it. I haven't made any baby things in quite a few years, no more little babies to make for, my youngest niece is 10.

I learned to knit first as a little girl. But once I learned to crochet, as a young adult - I never knitted again. I like crocheting better because it's faster, and you can stop and start easier and not worry about counting stiches. I can lay it down no matter where I am in the pattern and pick it back up and start crocheting again.

I really enjoy them both and it depends on what I'm making which one I'll use. I crochet for afghans, baby blankets, etc and knit when I'm making sweaters, hats, scarves, etc. Crocheting is definitely faster, but I really like to knit! :) My mom taught me how to crochet but I taught myself how to knit.

I can do them both, but prefer crocheting. It goes faster, you only need one needle, I think there are more things to crochet than to knit. When I crochet it relaxes me more than knitting.:paw:
