I have:

A swag valance and a duvet cover and shams in the pattern below.

A room that needs painting
A couple antiques in oak tones, a couple others that can be painted
A TV
White/Oyster Carpet

and a bathroom with biege toned background, burgandy and green wallpaper. Also, in the bathroom, there are two small Waverly rugs that coordinate with the fabric below.

Had thought of painting the walls a light mocha/biege and hand paint some accents in the colors of the swag valance.

Painting the antiques a white and hanging a chandelier that will be painted white and lightly antiqued.

But, I also picked out a lovely clear greenblue from the fabric, good match to walpaper in the bathroom and would also use painted white furnishings.

I can pick colors and fabrics for other people but not so easily for myself.

Would you go biege/mocha or clear green blue?

Oooooohhhhh I lurve that fabric!!!! The mocha sounds toooooo yummy to me with the painted accents. Gosh I can't wait to see pics of your work. You know Melissa the other color I would consider would be the light green in the fern leaves....the little ones. But really I think I would do the mocha walls with cream woodworks......Beautiful, really it is.

Melissa, That's the fabric in my dining room! :D I got it over 10 years ago and still love it! I agree with Lisa the mocha color would look great and so would the pale green. I think I would stick to the lighter shades so the fabric could stand out.

BTW - It goes great with wood finishes! In my dining room is knotty pine (honey stained, which is now a rich warm tone from aging) tounge and groove, and my furniture is solid oak with a natural finish.

Good luck, I think your choices are great! Don't forget to post pics when your done! :D

Melissa, Do you have cable tv? I sometimes watch some of the deorating/home improvement shows and they are becoming so daring with the beautiful colors that they paint interior walls. I could see a beautiful mocha too. Be brave, remember its only paint, you can recover it if you dont like it. I sponge painted my bathroom walls one brave day. When I first started my kids thought I was crazy. Dh was not home that day. When he got home I was in bed. The next morning he said you wallpapered the bathroom in one day? There are so many tools for sale at your home improvement store. I want some of Ralph Laurens tools that make the walls look like denim fabric for some areas of old outdated paneling. The have so many and I have seen enough of those shows to know it is not hard or complicated to get a designer look. The tools I saw run about 10-20 dollars, but the effect is worth hundreds look around.

I vote for the mocha/beige. That was my first thought even before I read your post! It's gonna be gorgeous! This decorating forum really gave you the fever huh?:)

Definitely the blue-green! Or, possibly the burgundy or some derivative thereof. Make sure you post new pix!!!

I would go for any color... really there are so many to choose from and don't be afraid it is only paint, and remember wait until it is all done to judge it, just doing 1 coat on one wall will look different than having the whole room done..
Personally I would go with a green tone BUT green is my favorite color..

You guys are great! Thanks for so much input!

I watch all those decorating shows...The entire viewable parts of the house from the front door are all painted a pale sage green, the ceiling is a shade lighter, per CLowell, and shade darker for the fireplace surround. All trimmed in white.

EVERY contractor I had bid the job told me I WOULD have a white ceiling. When I got to the one that didn't argue with me, he got the job.

That poor man was so confused with three colors of paint, that he didn't even call back to paint the other three rooms I wanted done....no telling what he thought...

Last Summer I ran upon the complete bedroom package while garage saling.

I was stumped by what to do with the bedroom because the bathroom is so busy and set....I'll try to get a few pics up later.

But, I pulled up to this house, saw colors, noted the valance was on a board (screaming custom made) and I am a sucker for anything with roses.

She had marked this swag valance $100...I asked about where she had it made and it was a local lady whose work is well known for quality custom drapes, et.

I was trying not to be too excited, thinking the colors were a perfect match for the bathroom and the fabric was heavy and so I knew it was quality.

Then the lady came over and said: "Oh, here they are" and she pulled out the duvet cover, two shams and the green stripe dust ruffle. "these go with it".

Have you ever felt faint from a good bargain?

So I opened up the duvet cover, it was in great shape, so I offered her $75 for it all and she took it!

When I looked it up, the fabric was over $25/yard, was a classic design so would be timeless, and knowing the work of the seamstress....I felt so blessed!

It was the garage sale coup of the summer, for sure.

Thank you all for your ideas!!!

sorry this post is so long!

Melissa- that is the exact fabric the curtains in my dining room! I made them probably 7-8 years ago. I also have chair cushions out of the same fabric. Who would have thought- you and I and Sewcrafty all have the same fabric! I vote for the mocha paint, but my second choice would be a pale green. My dining room is wallpapered in a white tone on tone stripe, and I have antique oak furniture.

I vote the green blue, I am tired of the beige/mocha, it is in all the house models.
