View Full Version : Is your front entry door decorated year round?
Sara Noel 01-10-2003, 01:20 PM and what types of things do you put on your front door? Is there a storm door also?
We have a storm door. I used to really decorate my main entry door with wreaths, but since married and children now the decorations seem to be the fun children paper type for holidays. ;)
I think I am going to make a nice wreath for spring though.
MJsLady 01-10-2003, 01:23 PM I tried to decorate mine for the holidays but being on the open prairie the wind tore open the screen door and took off with my picture!
I don't think I will try that again, at least until we figure out how to fix the screen door so it stays put in tough winds!
Patchworkgirl 01-11-2003, 08:08 AM I'm looking for ideas here. Just took the xmas wreath off the front door, and not sure what to replace it with. I need something that is between xmas and spring. Any ideas?
PrairieRose 01-11-2003, 11:15 AM I usually keep a cute, Texas style flag/welcome sign on mine....a friend cut it out and painted it. Really cute. I'm not as energetic as I once was about seasonal decorating. I think I'm getting lazy....:(
TheCottageRose 01-11-2003, 05:40 PM I found a wreath last year. It has mauve and pink magnolias, a couple pine cones, and greenery. Its all touched with a bit of glitter to catch the light.
I keep it up year around.
I had the cutest one but left it on the front door of the townhouse in Maryland.
It had spring colored flowers with little tiny watering pots and planters made of terra cotta. A ribbon ran around it, it was my favorite.
Jerseygirl 01-12-2003, 05:24 PM My Christmas wreath this year is pine-look and I covered it in white snowy branches and snowmen and the bow is white with silver snowflakes, I'll leave that up 'til I put my Valentines day wreath up. Valentines is a light willow heart with 6 silk roses and some wired hearts and a matching bow. Then I have a small willow St Pats with a bow and shamrocks and a little leprachaun. After that, I usually put a big spray wreath of shells and a natural looking burlap bow straight through the summer. I keep a broom covered in mums through the fall. I did buy some red white and blue stars and Uncle Sam bread dough ornaments after Christmas that I will probably do something special with for the summer holidaysa.
mom2knk 01-12-2003, 10:54 PM I always have something on my front door. We have a screen door but I hate it. I left it open for too long and now the hinge thing rusted and we can't shut it!:D I guess dh will have to take it off!!!!
I have a bear welcome sign on there right now. It has lots of little dangling things on it, bird houses, hearts, flowers.... I like it!!!! I have a flag pole outside the front door that I hang decorative flags on and I also have one that you stick in the ground that has little flags you can put on it. I have a sunflower windmill that dh made me, an old fashion buggy black iron windmill, a cow, a bunny and a bird feeder outside my front door. There is a lot out there and I am putting more out there in the next few days!!!!!! Dh is making me a bench for outside the front door. I can't wait until it is done!!
KathiS 01-19-2003, 06:13 AM I try to change how I decorate our front door each month. I also try to co-ordinate the wreath, or other door decoration, with a door mat. Right now I have a wooden snowman on the door. It has a sign over it that says, " Let it snow". I have a blue door mat with snowmen on it. I just bought a beautiful grapevine heart at the thrift store. It is painted blue. I bought some pretty red flowers at The Dollar Tree that I want to add to the heart. I will add some ribbon to it as well. I just love fixing that area up !
QuilterMom 09-23-2004, 05:40 PM We replaced our front door with one that has a huge oval decorative glass insert so I won't be hanging any wreaths or anything from it. We don't have a storm door.
LadyNada 09-23-2004, 11:13 PM I've started making wicker brooms for each of the seasons. So far I've made my autumn one, which is hanging on my door right now. Actually, I just did my autumn decorating today! My home looks so festive now!
Bright Blessings!

kimmee 09-24-2004, 01:14 AM I decorate my entry way and the mail box area for every holiday - the kid's bus stop is at the end of the drive by the mailbox so I update for each holiday or thing to make them feel into it- I like to decorate while they are at school so they have a surprise when they come home. This year for our Christmas advent they are picking a theme and craft to do the entryway in and they are giving me the supply list - but they are going to surprise me with what they come up with. One year we all did "Visions of sugar plums" and decorated with different fruits and candies for each season. We have a good time with this.
seadream 09-24-2004, 11:01 AM I always have a wreath on my front door and change them for the seasons/holidays.
I will be putting grapevine around the outside of the door frame with little white lights in it as soon as we go get some.
I have the little garden flags in front of the steps that I change for the seasons also.
Yes we have a screen door, love to have my doors open in weather permits and need the screen doors to keep the dogs & cat in the house.
Katybird 09-30-2004, 05:19 PM I usually decorate for the major holidays but the rest of the time, I just have some decorations around my porch area but not neccessarily on the door. :)
