View Full Version : Do you still have your wedding dress?
babynurse 01-10-2003, 08:22 PM I was just thinking about my wedding dress (it's on consignment and I awaiting payment) and was kind of wishing I had kept it; for no other reason than to just try it on and think of the dream wedding I was supposed to have and see how pretty I looked in it. I was supposed to have my first fitting two days after we broke up (boy that was hard, to cancel the fitting and go pick up the dress). Anyway, so do you still have your wedding dress? Where is it? Is it packed away? Do you plan on handing it down to your daughter? I am curious...
sixfreds 01-10-2003, 08:37 PM I still have mine.. it is all packaged up in my closet.... and if one of my daughters want it, it is their's when they get older of course....

Heather 01-10-2003, 08:38 PM Yes I still have my wedding dress. It has been 15 years!! It is packed away and if my daughter wants it when she gets married she may which would be great!! My Mom offered hers to me when I got married, there were some alterations to be made and I didn't want to wreck it on her so I declined, that is one of my big regrets to have worn my mothers wedding dress on my wedding day.
heaven 01-10-2003, 08:48 PM yes i still have mine anyone want to buy a dress cheap. LOL
captclearance 01-10-2003, 09:45 PM I never had one......:( I eloped......(SP) ......
Theresa, maybe selling yours was the best thing to do, you don't need reminders, especially now and you could use the extra cash now.... You'll have another someday when the man that goes with it will be worth saving too. Just wait it will happen........
2cutekids 01-10-2003, 11:15 PM I still have my wedding dress or I should say suit. I was married at the courthouse and wore a ivory linen suit. I don't know why I keep it. The marriage ended and I never wear the suit. I keep it for memories, I suppose. It still fits though.
aylasmommy 01-10-2003, 11:32 PM I sold mine it was just too big to store in our tiny space here..Plus we kind of needed the money to start buying baby things ;)
And I have plenty of pictures to remind me of it...and I'll never forget how magical i felt when i wore it :)
Now that i'm all frugal, i keep slapping myself for paying what i did for it(even though we only paid a small amount and a relative paid the rest) I should have just worn a white prom dress for 80$ or cheaper!
sunshine 01-10-2003, 11:35 PM I have mine (21 years later) and my dd was in awe that I'd kept it. I told her that I kept it in case she wanted to wear it when she got married. She looks at me kinda funny and says "Mom, you didn't even know me then!"
BTW- my dd is 13 and she thinks my dress is beautiful! Don't know what she'll think when she finally decides to marry, but it's there if she wants it- if not, then I'll sell it.
I got rid of the 2 dresses I had before- weddings that never occurred, but were planned to the point of having dresses/invitations/ and all that jazz.
simplemom 01-10-2003, 11:40 PM I saved it. My wedding dress is still very part of my life. My mom wore twice to be a fairy at Christmas, as well as one of my aunts. I lent it to a girl at my sons' school, becuase she needed to play in a *play*. I lent the skirt underneath(to make it bigger and wider) to my sister for her wedding....Since I have no daughters, I won't be handing down to my own children, but if my grandchild wants to do something with it later in life( when I do have grand kids ;) ) well, it will go for her...

mom2matty 01-11-2003, 12:23 AM I still have mine too. I was married almost 18 years ago. It is hanging in my closet. Dd has started taking an interest in it, she is 15. I tell her it is hers if she wants it but not for several more years!!!!:D
lucy979 01-11-2003, 04:54 AM I still have mine too! I let a girl that's a friend of the family wear it to her prom. Man she was so beautiful! My dress was a prom dress anyway. If my DD wants to wear it she can but somehow I doubt she will.
Lori Biever-Launder 01-11-2003, 05:16 AM Mine is preserved in a special box. Can I fit into it? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! It is 21 years old and still looks great. My sister made it for her senior sewing class project. I supplied all the materials and paid her $50.00--all I could afford at the time to do it and the veil. I figure that the dress and veil cost about $100.00. I have no girls, but may loan it to a niece IF any of them want to use it.
voodidit 01-11-2003, 05:43 PM Nope, sold it on Ebay for twice what I paid for it, how's that for frugal..lol. I have plenty of pictures and I knew my dd was not going to wear it, she will probablly wear black to her wedding...lol.
mommy2three 01-11-2003, 06:03 PM i still have mine also. it is preserved in a special box. i bought mine from a consignment shop....and paid like $175.00 for it. it is kinda old fashioned looking. very simple. i loved it...and when i tried it on the first time, it fit perfectly!! it is a size 3/4. i couldn't get one leg in it now!!:(
but maybe someday dd will want it. if she does, it is hers.:D
Belinda 01-20-2003, 02:29 PM Yep, I still have mine too, and like Misty, I paid extra when I had mine cleaned to have it preserved in a special box for my daughter someday. Well someday never came, I have a son instead. Not that I would trade him for anything! But it's really pretty, kind of old-fashioned looking, with chantilly lace.
QuilterMom 01-20-2003, 03:02 PM I have mine - it's in a box from when it was specially preserved. I don't have a dd to pass it on to so I really don't know what will happen to it.
priscilla 02-14-2003, 07:36 PM my wedding was just this past december (12-7-02) so yes I do!! I plan to keep it and either dye to wear as a formal (not a super fancy dress but lovely!) or use it to make a baby blanket when I am blessed with a baby!
voodidit 02-14-2003, 07:58 PM Thats a sweet idea Priscilla!
jettsmom 03-04-2003, 05:41 PM I still have mine (18yrs). I had it cleaned and preserved in a special box, but my sister got into it and tried it on and wore only the veil for her wedding, without asking. I'm still steamed about that one. I don't have any daughters, so I don't know what I'll do with it. Maybe a future DIL? I didn't pay much for it. I ordered it out of the JCPenney catalog and paid $150 total. I know a few others that got married about the same time and they paid over $500 for theirs. I just couldn't pay that much for something I'd wear once.
bamamomto4 03-04-2003, 05:59 PM I wore my aunts dress. I kinda wish i ahd one to pass to my girls but chances are they wouldn't want to wear what I did anyways.
I have lots of wedding pics and Katie says "You are one pretty lady mommy.." :D
sunshine 03-06-2003, 10:37 AM I'll see if I can add a pic of my wedding dress. I've never uploaded a pic on here, so it may not work.
scooby 03-07-2003, 10:07 AM Yes I have mine, actually it was my grandmothers dress.
voodidit 03-09-2003, 12:39 AM Beautiful dress sunshine!
mylittle4 03-09-2003, 02:18 AM Yes I have mine. I have 3 dds and I have thought of making bridal bags out of it for them when they get married.
QuilterMom 03-09-2003, 02:20 PM Very beautiful pic, sunshine!
