As you know, we still do not have water, the well is now frozen and temps this week are supposed to be in the teens and single digits, so we won't have any for a while. Well my parents are in Florida for 3 months, I called Mom and asked to use her kitchen to do some cooking and to take showers. Of course it was okay, but I like to ask anyway.

So yesterday I finally got to cook! I made a ton of meals that should last us at least 2 weeks or more. When it is gone, if we still don't have water I'll be going back for another cooking session.

Very long day, 9 1/2 hours non stop. I take that back, made western egg for lunch, too many eggs to use up. So I had about a 20 minute break. Didn't get home till 7 pm, by the time we had dinner, played with my katz for a few minutes I was pooped. I fell asleep in my recliner by 8:30!

Oh this is what I made:
Meatloaf
Baked pasta (didn't have ziti in the house so used rigatoni)
Mac & Cheese
Chili
Beef and Noodles
Pot Roast
Mashed Potatoes

I'll supplement with can veggies, baked potatoes, tossed salads etc.. Dh just told me yesterday after 23 years together he doesn't like baked chicken! So I didn't make any as he was with me, but next time I will and do something else to it.

Wow that's awesome that you were able to use your mom's kitchen and even better that you were able to cook so much in one day! I'd love to do that some time...first I need to get a freezer to store it all in :)

What was nice, was I had the house to myself. And Mom's kitchen has a much better layout than mine so it is much more economical to work in. Although after 9 1/2 hours on my feet I was tired, but well worth it.

Funny thing, I knew I saw her can opener and then I couldn't find it. I looked EVERYWHERE, I had to finally resort to calling her in Florida. My Dad answered and said it is to the left of the sink, I said no it isn't. So he hollers to my Mom and asks where is it? She said right next to the George Foreman Grill. I said ah ha! It's in the laundry room (for lack of storage room) , I would have looked there eventually!

I wish I could, but not having water it seems is more work than when you have it. I did dishes again this morning, by the time I heated the water and washed everything in site, 2 hours had gone by. I have to keep going to the laundry mat. When we need showers, it is 70 miles round trip to my Mom's. So an entire day is shot doing things you normally do just as your puttering around the house. It makes for longer days, but we'll get by. It definately makes you appreciate the original homesteaders and how they had to haul water by hand from a creek! :D

I'm just thankful that
1) We have a natural spring down the road to get water from
2) I don't have small children in the house
3) I can go to my Mom's whenever I need to

I do OMAC as well. Looking to buy another freezer soon. Thinking an Upright one this time. I have two chest types. One is for Fresh garden Fruit & Veggies, and Bulk Meats it's in the out building. The other a smaller chest type is in my dining room and has daily items. I did a session about 4 days ago and it really went well ended up with enough meals for about 5 weeks. What all do you make?

Oh Diana, I'm so sorry that you are still dealing without water & will be for the near future. Wished you lived closer. You are quite the trooper & glad you are finding ways to deal with this.

Thanks ladies! :D

Still no water and probably won't be for quite awhile. The temps here are brutal, -10 at 6 pm last night, but it is warmer today.

There is a upside to all of this! I can't wash my hair, so I won't go out and spend money! How's that for being frugal??? :D
