Was it the cost, location or both.

Actually when we purchased our home, we looked at the cost as the most important because we wanted to pay cash. Location came in a distant second.

How about you?

Cost, we wanted a home we could own, that would not own us..... Consider if you could pay for the house if one of you had no money....... It was a decision that has saved us from the street many times !!!!!! Then location, I didn't want to live in the city anymore........

Everything. When we saw our home we loved it because it is so neat, homey looking. And, we got it for a great price.

Both, but more cost than location. We wanted a home we could easily afford, dh was only making 22,000 at the time. We also wanted a "safe" location. Our house payment is under $400 a month, so it is very affordable. Another thing we looked for was a house big enough for our family to grow. We only had dd when we bought our house, so we could have gotten by with a two bedroom. We wanted to have another child, so we bought a three bedroom. I am very thankful we decided on a three bedroom, since our second child ended up being twins.

it was everything, cost of course but we also paid a lo of attention to the location, we wanted a good neighborhood setting for the kids to playa nd grow up in...
and this house had it all....

Both- we definitely wanted acreage to go with our house, but arcreage and cheap house didn't go together in the areas we were looking. So we bought a cheap piece of land and put a cheap modular home on it. The upstairs is unfinished, so that saved us big bucks off the cost of the house. It was our goal to not borrow the max amount the bank would allow, incase we ever had to live on less of an income.

Both! We knew the bank was nuts telling us what we could afford! We also wanted 5-10 acres in a small rural community.

Location.

We had a choice -- pay REALLY BIG BUCKS to give DH a 15 minute drive; or pay BIG BUCKS -- and DH would have a 60-minute, stressful commute one way.

We went w/ the expensive choice -- and I am glad. DH saves 7.5 hours every week with the shorter commute. That's about 30 hours a month. With that extra 30 hours, he does most of our house and car repairs. He's a troop leader for DD's scouts. He eats dinner with us every night!

So, even though it costs us an extra $500/month for the closer house, we get a lot of value out of it.

Cost and location were important but the most important was determining whether or not we would have the room to build the apartment that now houses my in-laws.

When we were looking for our current home it was definelty cost , but the next house will certainly be location as I want something secluded with no one around

Well, we bought our home b/c it was an opportunity to own the home that I grew up in. It's a comfy home full of wonderful memories for us all. It was affordable and that helps too.

Location, dh has an hour ride to work so the closer to the highway the better and we wanted to keep the girls in the same school district.

P.S. My dad was in the navy while I was growing up and I was bound and determined my girls would not be moved like I was.

We knew our price range, knew we needed at least 4 bedrooms...and saw tons that fit both requirements. But when you start cutting it back to the school districts you find acceptable? We sucked it in and paid more. The kids are only going to have one shot at a good education. The stuff they are learning as a result of our house, area choice? Sacrifice some things to get the important things in life. No we don't live in the NEW section of our subdivision...but you still go to awesome schools!! No you each don't get your own rooms...GET A GRIP!!! LOL

BTW our house paymet is $1100 per month. In Michigan.

OUCH!

In our current house it wise price first, then potential resale value or rental income..(I was 18 when we bought it) Location is right for resale and rental....we bought it in 95 for $50,000, refininced in 03 for $63,000 and it is on the market right now for $95,000 (we owe $59,000)

The new house.........LOCATION! DH has a heart condition that is agrevated by stress...we live in college central (5 min from Florida State University) and our new home (we are building) is in a 2 light town about 20 minutes from Tallahassee which coincidentlly has better schools than Tally. Then price....don't want to stress the checkbook if/when DH is forced into early retirement (because of the heart condition)

Both- cost wasn't as important to us as getting some land with our home.

Cost - wanted something we thought we could afford not what the bank thought - totally 2 different things. We are glad we went with what we were comfortable with. :)
