We learned a valuable lesson this weekend. The next home we buy we are going to check the attic and crawlspace before purchase. After wondering why the kids rooms were so much cooler/warmer than the rest of the house, we did some looking around. The builder forgot to put insulation around the block foundation (crawlspace) under ds's room. And there was NO insulation over 2nd and 3rd bedrooms at all! Whoever blew in the insulation for the builder did not go past the trey ceiling in the living room. There is a second opening you must go through to get to the area over those rooms.
We rented a blower and put insulation in so now the rooms will be warmer. We also did the foundation and part of the floors. Now maybe the kids won't be so cold at night. This should help with utility bills also! :)

That's a good tip. Sorry you had to find out the hard way. :(
I'm happy to hear you were able to insulate. Other than some of the west coast it is cold all over the country!

we know exactly what you are going through!! after having really cold floors....and dd's room being so cold, dh went down into the crawspace! well, when the builders put insulation up under the house, they didn't even tack it!!! they just shoved it up in there. well, it had ALL nearly fallen down AND they only hooked up the furnace pipes with one piece of wire and like 3 had fallen down away from the vents!!! dh fixed the pipes, but he still needs to fix the insulation!! it has been sooooo cold this winter, that i have to wear shoes on the kitchen floor to keep my feet warm!!! so, unfortunately we do know what you are going through. we didn't check it either when we were looking to buy. live and learn!!;)

Did you hire a home inspector before you bought the house? A good one is worth every penny you pay- they will find every problem and potential problem and save you a butt load of money in the long run.
Atleast that was a relatively simple fix- you live and you learn. I'm glad to hear everything turned out OK- you'll get your money back out of your heating bill now :)

Glad you were able to fix the problem. I am sure your utilities bills will be cheaper now that the whole house is insulated. I wonder why they didn't finish the job? Too bad you didn't find out before you bought it.

That's too bad that you had learn after the fact. Great that you were able to fix it yourselves though. Imagine what it would have cost had you had to hire it done!

We hired a home inspector, and he failed to point out quite a few things. He lied about the condition of the breaker box/electrical system, failed to point out that there was no vent for the dryer, serious water damage under kitchen and bathroom sinks, sewer line needed replacing, etc. Buyer beware! I have cried many times over this house and what it is costing us. I would rather be living in our old two bedroom apartment. Be very careful if buying an existing home. Oh, we need a new roof, and guttering too. We have lived here one year.

Sorry you have had so many problems with you new home. I'm so glad that you are able to do some of the work yourselves though.
Too bad that inspector didn't find the important things so you would have atleast known ahead of time.
Hoping you get it all fixed and aren't out too much money. Thanks for the tip.:)
