He used his bonus to buy some tools and yesterday he made a wall shelf for ds's room! He found a design in the Pottery Barn Kids catalog that he liked and the shelf he made looks extremely similar to the shelf in the catalog which sells for $49 (not including s/h and tax!). It looks fantastic! It just needs to be sanded and stained and it'll be all ready for ds's room. :D
