Kathryn is 5.5 and is doing really well with her reading. I can't wait until my children can read whenever they want. I was a big reader growing up, as was Dave, and I'm convinced that all of the reading I did really helped me in school.

I honestly can't remember a time when Ashe couldn't read...lol. She would read her story books to me when she was 3-4 but I think a lot of that was memorization, but she was able to pick out those same words in other books so I guess I would have to say she really was reading them then too. But I was reading at that age too.

Both of my boys were five when they could read an entire book. They oth could read many sight words before that though. I had Andrew almost reading when he started kindergarten. He was truly reading by October of that year! Robby took a bit longer, but was reading by the time Christams came along during his kindergarten year.

My oldest dd was 7, and my youngest dd was 4. Our youngest seemed to read from birth - no lessons or instructions at all. :)

My ds is 4 and I am teaching him to read now. He is doing quite well with the first sight words.
Dd had a much harder time. She still does not read well, but with her learning problems she is doing well.

Miss Kitty - are you using any particular curriculum/book (i.e. Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons, etc). for teaching your 4y.o.?

My eldest DS (17) is dyslexic and although he can read still isn't that good and needs lots of help to get through any piece of reading. His reading is better than his spelling though and he doesn't do either out of choice.

DD (15) could read at age 3 or 4 but since she has had her storkes can't recognise joining words such as: and, it, a, in etc. So that makes reading almost impossible for her and also won't do it out of choice :(

DS (9) has learning difficulties and is only just now learning to read.

DD (5) Is a beautiful reader and is doing really well and can sound out or guess most words and is reading whole books, signs, anything! She is a real info junkie LOL.

DD (3) Pretends to read even if the book IS upside down LMAO!

ds was reading by age 3 and dd was about 3 1/2 - 4. Both just picked it right up. Maybe reading to them during pregnancy helped?

Katie is 4 and doesn't read. She can memorize words but she's not really reading. She makes up the story and just says the words she knows lol
When she was learning to write her name, she thought every K word said Katie lol
