I have a diabetic cat and am wondering if anyone else deals with this on a daily basis.

BTW LOVE that new pet forum!!

Daisy isn't and to be honest with you I never even thought about this for animals. What were your cats symptoms to have her tested for this?

Daphne,
My cats symptoms included rapid weight loss, excessive drinking and "watering" and eating like there was no tomorrow!!

Even though he was eating almost a half a bag of cat food per day, he was losing weight!!

Last May he weighed 26 pounds. In December when he was diagnosed he weighed 20 and before he came home from Vet he was down to 18 pounds.
While his weight now, is definetly healthier for him, I don't recommend it as a way for your pets to trim down!! LOL-(I can joke about it now, but we almost lost him in December)

I do home blood tests on him, just like on a person and inject insulin, (though right now he is off insulin at the moment-8 days and counting) and that is highly unusual to be regulated that quickly.

I feel I know more about feline diabetes and cat food and nutrition than I ever thought was even available!!

Edited to add: That's my special baby in my avatar!!

I have another question concerning the Diabetic Issue for a Pet.
My Oldest Cat is almost 10 years old and lately everything he eats he throws straight back up .
Has anyone ever dealt with this and do you think it could be a sign of Diabeties in my Cat.
He does drink alot of water daily and he seems to have lost alot of weight.
I know for sure it is not hair balls that he is throwing up.

I am not sure about that symptom of throwing everything straight back up-I do know that dibetic cats do seem to have more digestive track troubles.
Drinking alot of water and losing weight rapidly are definite warning signs though.

A normal cat needs/drinks about 1/2 cup water or less per 24 hrs. If it is possible I would measure that amount out and leave it for you cat and see if he drinks that amount and then asks for more over a 24 hour period (of course giving more if needed). If he does require more, I would go get some blood work done to see what is going on.

Weight loss is probably from vomiting and not getting the nutrients he needs. Disclaimer ;) Of course I am not a vet and this is only my opinion.

How long has he been vomiting?-sounds like a trip to the vet is in order for that anyway.

He has been vomiting off and on for about 2 weeks now.
I have thought it might be his food but he has been eating this same type of food now for more than a month and he doesn't vomit it up everyday.
