I found a beautiful Shell shaped plate with cup made by Lefton China, but I can't find any info on it. If I had a dig. camera, I'd put up a pic...sniffle

I'm working on the camera...gonna put one in lay-a-way Friday at Walmart.

I checked Kovel's antique price site, they have a listing for a porcelian cup and plate set, but this is pottery(At least I think it is??daaaa it's made by a China Co...daaaa). I work at a pottery and I don't think porcelian has a lap mark (where the head of the machine presses into the clay...usually in the bottom of the cup or bowl).

Is porcelian cast in a mold or formed by a machine (pressed into a mold)? hmmmmm...I'll have to ask one of the engineers at work...but if anyone here knows...fess up...LOLOLOL

On the bottom on the mark is it a "made in occupied japan" marking or no? (red/gold foil label)The colors are a good give away on the time period too. Does it say handpainted on the bottom?
Lefton makes porcelin, glass, and pottery.
In collectible shows we sold Lefton cups and saucers (not occupied japan markings) for under $20.00.
You can possibly try your library for the lefton price guides. There are a few out in publication. Some pieces have the date and some have factory id's on them too.
And yes, porcelain can be molded.

It was not made in "occupied Japan" ( My sis has a teacup and saucer with that mark--it belonged to my Gr. Gran)...back to this piece...

It is hand painted and the plate has a "serial number" for lack of the proper term. It has an extremely intricate pattern...kind of a floral paisley print. The pattern is made in shades of blue against a white back ground. There are NO chips or cracks in either the cup or plate. And it is lined with gold.

The plate is 4x7, shell shaped and the cup has a slightly fluted rim.

It may well be porcelian...for some reason, I thought porcelian was cast...perhaps because of all those cheap porc. figurines...LOLOLOL

So, what do ya think? Did I find something???
