Do you go through the paper and plan a route or just go to all that you come upon?? I usually check the paper for ones that have stuff i might be interested in and try those first, and then its just stop where I see a sign.

Do you make a list ? I read in the book "Frugal Luxeries" to make a list of stuff you are looking for. I thought about doing that this year but wondered if you ladies do it? I thought I would write down sizes and certain items I am on the hunt for. I usually just jump outta the car and grab what looks good....lol....I usually end up with stuff I don't need....

Tell us how you do your yard saling and give us some tips on getting the good... :D

I just drive around until I see them. Starting in the spring until fall they are everywhere around here! I've never made a list of things I need/want or sizes but I plan on doing that this year. I can't wait until the sales start again!! :D

I look the paper the night before, and check on my map where each sale is (that sounds good to me). Then I plan the order that I'll hit them, starting with closest to my house and fanning out in all directions. I write them down in the order that I'm going to hit them and the lucky daughter who ends up in the passenger seat is my navigator. All 3 teenage daughters usually go with me. Since I sell on Ebay most of the stuff I buy, and my teenagers are always looking for good deals on clothes, we take our garage sales very seriously!

I look in the paper and write down the sales in order of stops... (I map them out) I even use yahoo maps before hand if I am unsure of where it is........ I keep a little note pad of sizes and even carry swatches..... I take a pocket measuring tape, I measure pants for the family by taking a pair that are a good fit, lay them flat with the buttons done and measure across them, then I write that down..... Sizes, especially pants can vary widely.......

I have to make a list. I map out my stops by the paper the nite before, have my change ready and hit it early. I don't keep a written list of wants but always know it when I see it. I have to admit that I sometimes come home with things I don't need too. BUT I always(!) enjoy the garage saling.

This past summer I started to look in the paper on Friday and hit those first on Saturday. Of course, I don't pass any by that aren't on the list, though!

DH and I go together. You must leave the house early! Not necessarily to get to the sales before they start (some don't like early birds) but we are usually out of the house before 7:00. We map them out the night before in order of the towns, streets etc. to save time. I like to take a snack and a drink with me so we don't waste time stopping for one, lol. We help each other scout out stuff, he starts at one end, and I start at the other. We purchase stuff for ebay as well and have done great with our finds.

A little of both. Our small paper covers a wide area so it would be hard and not economical(big word!!!!)to drive 30 miles to a yard sale.I will look to see if their are any in my area, but usually all I have to do is turn left or right out of my subdivision and will find atleast 10 of them.

I've always made lists,2 for each member of my house. One for Needs like clothes and other for wants like disney vidoes for christmas.I also keep sizes of my lil sister which is very hard to come by.

I look on my local newspapers web site and write down all the ones that I want to go to, starting with the closest one to my house, of course if I see signs for other ones I usually make detours

I use the newpaper and map a general list of the order that I want to go to. I am very lucky that our paper list the garage sales by sections of town so it makes mapping it out easy. I love to go to estate sales too, especially the ones that are off the beaten path in the country. I found a large Nesco roaster a couple of years ago at an estate sale in the country and only paid $3.00 for it and last year at another country sale I found vintage Pyrex colored nesting mixing bowls and numerous other pyrex bowls and serving pieces with lids and I paid no more than .50 cents for any piece. I bought every piece that they had. :D

I can't wait for them to start again.

Blessings,
Kathy

 I plan out my route using a map. I look for the most promising yard sales that have items that are on my want/wish/need list. We usually take a small cooler with drinks or water bottles and some sort of snack. The whole family goes and we make a morning of it.

I have to share a quick story with you. I used to hit estate sales as soon as they opened and took my sons with me. Chris, who was about 10 at the time, spotted a beautifully ornate garden cart right before it was time to open. He knew I would want it, so the minute the sale opened, he ran right past the antique dealers and snagged it for me. Those dealers were came up to him and tried to get him to sell it to him for $40!!!! He told them no very politely(he got it for $5 and was on his way to load it up in the van), it was a gift for his Mom. They were so mad at him because he got it first and kept upping the price they were willing to pay for it. He kept turning them down politely. Another time he found a hand turned oak rolling pin from the 1800's (he collects these) and had it in his hands. Some of the same antique dealers kept asking him if he was going to really get it. He told them yes, but they kept follwing him around and asking him again. After about the 6th time, he finally had had enough and told them to back off. He has been polite to them up until then and quite frankly I didn't blame him on bit for getting upset with them! They were like vultures waiting to strike!

I normally check the ads in the paper and tend to go for the ones that are held at schools, churches or community sales. I hate driving around a lot from sale to sale so I try to choose the ones that will have the most merchandise.

I don't make a list.
