I was sorry to see so many of us have had bad/unhappy experiences with cloth diapers...(cds). I love mine and have never had to rinse out a dipe and my Sarah is 5 and 1/2 months old. I use the washing machine and do an extra wash to clean out the poopies( I breast feed exclusively still). When she is older and doing more, I will use fleece liners for the poop. It falls right off the fleece and there will still not need to be any rinsing. I just felt compelled to say something positive about the cloth diapers in case anyone was thinking about them.

Diapers are not all alike and there are some great ones available on the internet. I have some links if you are interested in cloth and would gladly help anyone to get started. The dipes found at walmart etc are not very absorbent or well made...there are diapers out with snaps and velcro and are a breeze to use. Don't let the local diapers ruin your enthusiasm for cloth diapers! I LOVE my dipes and would never go disposable.....I really feel good about using the cloth dipes as well.....good for the environment and my budget! It is a win-win scene for me and I think it could be for many others as well. I know many others on the internet that love their diapers as well.....Mothering Magazine has a good discussion board for diapers that anyone can check out....

Cloth diapers have not been a frugal flop for me and I didn't want anyone to think that it CANT be done!! It can!:smball:

We used cloth for dd and it was great. We did use liners so the icky-poo was easy to get rid of. Sure did save a lot of money!

I too have heard great things about cloth, there really is a big difference when it comes to quality. We don't use cloth because we don't have our own washer and dryer, or we would give it a go.

My main problem with cloth was the rinsing out part. I've never used cloth diapers so really I have NO idea whats involved except rinsing and washing.Washing is not a big deal,I do that everyday anyway lol But I have a weak stomach and I just can't see myself rinsing out a diaper with poop.
If you don't rinse them out,how does the poop come off before you add them to the wash? I know the hard stool would just fall off but what about the runny ones lol

You can use liners or when its poopy but loose, it will rinse out in the first wash with the washing machine.....did you know that when you use disposables, they say to dump the poop in the toilet because its not supposed to go into the landfills....I never knew that before either and I don't think many people do.....so the gross issue is there no matter what really if you do it right by the book...

When mine were babies I used a diaper service. It cost less than disposable & they delivered nice clean diapers once a week & took away the soiled ones. They also gave me a special hamper to use with a deodorant in it & never had a smelly house waiting the week for pick up. Boy that was a few years ago,my youngest is 16 1/2.:)

I have not had any bad time with cloth yet!! My son loves them. Comfort.

Well, I'm on cloth diaper baby #7 so obviously it's not been a problem. If it really bothers people, buy some gloves. I figure if I can clean up after a dog and cat my own baby is not a problem.

as for the yuck factor.....I can clean up my kids icky stuff way easier than a pet...bleh... the icky line blurs after a few years being a mom.

I would be very interested in the ones that are good to use. That's the hard part. I see comments for this one was terrible, this was wasn't very absorbent etc...What are ones people have tried and what did they like?

The ones at Walfart are terrible from what I've heard. I just ordered BumGenius and I'm about to order some Happy Heiny and maybe a Blueberry minky...Those are so adorable, but at that price, I will only order one. Maybe two....lol I am going for poxkets vs AIO, they dry faster and seem better to me. Plus, I've heard lots of good things. I REALLY REALLY want to cloth diaper, (when that time comes LOL) but don't know anyone who does. I think I might prefer AIO's. My gf's all figure it's around $2000 to diaper and formula a bbay fo rthe first year, and I really want to cd and bf, but what size to start at and what liners are best...or do people usually make their own?? LOL...I really like to plan ahead :P

Warning-AIO's take an insane amount of time to dry. I am a pocket fan, they're super easy, just stuff them after you launder and they take only one cycle to dry. I find myself drying my AIO dipes at least 3 times!! Your best bet is to try out BumGenius 3.0 OS (one size) because they are trim under clothes, dry quick, clean very well and will fit baby till potty training. I haven't had any leaks, even at night and my baby is a super soaker. They are my favorite diaper. I have some Happy Heinys and they leak for me. I have prints and they seem to leak for everyone. My Blueberry diapers, while very cute, leak at the crotch area inside the leg after 1 or 2 at most pees. I have a Muttaqin dipe that everyone raves about, the 3 step rise...That thing leaks straight through all over, there is no PUL. I'll be selling it on Diaper Swappers. Go there to start your CD adventure, there's lots of great mamas selling off their stashes to make room for new stuff. That's where I bought a lot of my stuff except my BG 3.0s...It's a great way to find out what you like and what works best for your baby. We love cloth too. My husband has been very much on-board most of the time but occasionally he puts a disposable on DD. Finally I said "YOU KNOW, the cloth dipes are paid for. Every time you put a disposable on her, you are throwing money away. USE THE CLOTH." and he did. heehee!

In January this year I started using cloth with my DD at home she was 16 months at the time. I use old fashion Gerber prefold from Walmart, 6 ply I think. I use the diaper pins and rubber pants. I've enjoyed using cloth and I get a very satisfying feeling when I see a clotheslines full of pretty white diapers flying in the wind. I dump the poop in the potty and just trhow them into a bucket with a little water and detergent, or soap, or shampoo (whatever I've got around). I wash every 3-4 days. When I have my next child I will probably go the modern way of cloth diapering and will use them from the time I come home from the hospital. However, I haven't been dissapointed with the simple prefold ones.

I like Bumpkins covers. I bought Bumpkins doublers and rice paper inserts. AIO are okay, not my favorite. I bought Gerber diapers from Walmart at washed & dried them 5 times until they quilted and away we went.

I currently am using pocket diapers with my son and I love them. I used disposable with my daughter because it never occurred to me to use cloth, but when my son was born he started having issues and so I moved to cloth. I had a girlfriend who lives and dies by them so she told me how to get them off the Internet. Now that I've used them, I will never go back to disposable! They're easy to manage, and I'm not shelling out $50 a month in diapers per kid! My daughter is two and I've put her in cloth training diapers to cut down on the expenses as well. Yes the poop is kind of gross, but reality is that we all do it and if I can give birth than I can also clean up poppy.
