Over the years, I have learned to be a little wiser with money. I admit, I am still learning everyday and still find certain things tempting. What I have learned (the hard way) is to keep your bills up to date, work on having your credit cards paid off, have money saved for a rainy day such as an emergency fund and a RRSP (IRA) I have also found a stocked pantry to be a God send when times are tough.
I read it many years ago and it took me a while to really make it sink in . . . pay yourself first! Even if it is just a small amount always put a little away for a rainy day.
How have you learned to be wise with money?

I have learned that the initial price may be higher but often quality is worth the price in the long run!

I have learned to not go shopping unless I absolutely need something. I use to run into Target or Kmart or TJ Maxx, just to see what was on sale. I ended up buying lots of stuff that was on sale or clearance, and even though they were good deals, I didn't really "need" another shirt, or my daughters didn't "need" any more clothes. I was probably spending about $30 - $40 each shopping trip, and that was adding up. Since January, I have not purchased any clothing or misc items, and I figure that I have probably saved about $200 dollars so far.

I have learned a few things along the way, but am learning something new everyday. Some things I have known, but we just haven't been able to do anything about them. Just last month we were able to begin snowballing our debt. I have learned that this is one of the smartest ways to paying off debt.

Something I have learned is to STAY home.....if I am NOT in town at the stores the temptation to spend is NOT there!!!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I've learned not to buy those decorating magazines!:toothy:
Really the staying home works for me too. Not much to spend money on where I live. ;)

I totally agree with the staying home. I used to go to Target or the mall just for something to do and end up spending money on impulsive purchases. Now I only go if I'm in dire need of something.
I have also stopped reading sales flyers- too big of a temptation.
