I've tried freezing the 8oz blocks but once I go to use them, the cheese just falls apart.....Would it be better if I grated the cheese first then freeze it?? And also, how long will it last in the deep freeze?? Thanks!

View Full Version : How do you freeze cheese? bamamomto4 03-12-2003, 10:27 AM I've tried freezing the 8oz blocks but once I go to use them, the cheese just falls apart.....Would it be better if I grated the cheese first then freeze it?? Whole pieces will crumble after freezing but this will have little effect on it if you are cooking with it........ If you want it for cheese and crackers, ect... Do not freeze it.......... it could last a year or more if you wrap it right, use several layers of wrap, you can even use those thick wax paper bags that cerial comes in. get out as much air as possable, air and moisture are what effect frozen foods...... bamamomto4 03-12-2003, 10:44 AM Would the food savers be better in sealing cheese?? Would it last longer?? Tell Steve I need one ok LOL!! guest2 03-12-2003, 11:14 AM We always shred the huge blocks of cheese and then freeze them for use in casseroles and Pizza. I've had them in the freezer for up to a year in ziplock bags with great results!:) PrairieRose 03-12-2003, 12:05 PM I also always shred it first. It's much easier just reach in and get a handful of shredded frozen cheese to use than to have to let it thaw and then shred or crumble. |
