View Full Version : Are You Brand Loyal?
CountryMom 01-07-2002, 01:39 PM and how does it affect you frugaly?
Yes I am! My prefered brands are...
Tampax Tampons
Ragu Spaghetti sauce
diet coke
stovetop stuffing
Tide
Caress bath soap
I probably do spend a bit more overall then I would if I bought the cheaper versions but,....
I buy tampons, tide and soap at SAMS (it is the cheapest place I have found these items even with loss leaders and coupons)
I wait for a sale on the other items, use coupons and stock up. I bought 30 boxes of Stovetop around Thanksgiving time because it was .25 a box after coupons and I knew we would eventually eat it all.
Whos next...
autumn 01-07-2002, 05:22 PM I have a few brands that I am loyal to. Tide and Tampon are two of them, but also: Heinz kethup--nothing tastes the same Campbell's soups. I was raised a Campbell's kid and nothing will change me now.
Skippy peanut butter
Coke (my teen son drinks nothing but)
Crest toothpaste
THose are the ones that come to mind, but I am sure there are quite a few others.
AmyBoz 01-07-2002, 06:07 PM I am only brand loyal to my facial cleanser and moisturizer because my skin is so sensitive. Cetaphil on both counts. Other than that, whatever. However, dh MUST have his Sprite and Coke. I have pointed out endless times how many cans of ShopRite soda we could get for the $ we pay for a case of the other, but there is no budging him. I don't drink soda, so I let it go.
CarrotCake 01-07-2002, 06:14 PM When it comes to cleaning and personal hygiene type products I am. Food is less of an issue.
I only use wisk detergent, only dawn dish washing liquid, have to have colgate toothpaste, etc.
I don't care if my canned corn is del monte or green giant though. I am particular about my food in other ways. I only drink 1% milk. I use real butter, hate decaf coffee and white bread. Any juice I buy has to be 100% juice.
For my picky areas, I watch the sale papers, use coupons, and stock up when the commisary has a case lot sale. I figure the areas where I am willing to cut back probably balance out my splurges. (if I am wrong, I don't want anyone to contradict me though LOL)
scooby 01-08-2002, 10:30 AM I am loyal to
Hellman's Mayo
Jiff Peanut Butter
Heinz Ketchup
Scooby
COUNTRYBUMPKIN 01-08-2002, 03:16 PM I have to have .....
Jif peanut butter(creamy)
Heinz ketchup
Purex laundry detergent w bleach alternative
kleenex tissues with the lotions
cottonelle t tissue
velveeta mac and cheese for those times when I have no time:laugh:
Jerseygirl 01-08-2002, 07:05 PM Helmann's Mayo and his deoderant are the only brands I am loyal to--and I've tried to dump them also, just can't find anything to beat the Helmann's and he's allergic to just about any other deo.
So be it.:)
Sara Noel 01-11-2002, 10:21 AM I have really become so much less brand loyal. I think I only care about Hellmans Mayo and Coffeemate creamer.
I do buy certain brands of dishsoap, toothpaste, coffee, and toilet paper etc but doesn't have to be a specific brand. I just prefer a brand name vs. generic.
Sara
Ahrens65 01-11-2002, 10:31 AM I never thought i was brand loyal....but looking in my pantry tells me otherwise.....LOL.......I guess since i bulk shop at sams every so often.....it happened!
Tampax Tampons
Heinz Ketchup
Velveeta
Simple Green
Miracle Whip
Jif or Skippy peanut butter
The rest of my shopping is store brands on sale and it has to be a really good deal before i will use a coupon to save more.......I haven't really got the hang of coupons yet! :D
Tamara
Lori Biever-Launder 01-19-2002, 08:34 PM I have only two thing I am brand loyal to:
Nutranuggets pet food
Stain Stick
I get 99% of stains out with Stain Stick--even old ones that may have shown up on garage sale items (bought when everything was a buck a bag!). As for the pet food, both my pets thrive on this. It's vet reccomended (as well as our breeder touting it when we got our show dog) and is reasonably priced.
I hate other prewash treaters; I like being aboe to pretreat when I see the stain; I would forget the stain otherwise!:)
I usually stockpile when on sale and/or coupons)
Lets see:
Mountain Dew (me)
Diet Coke (husband)
Heinz ketchup (husband)
Velveta Mac and Cheese (me)
Campbell's Chunky Soup (me)
Pringles Pototo Chips (husband)
Lays Potato Chips (husband)
probably a few more things that do not jump out at the moment
Minnie401 01-24-2002, 11:09 AM Well we buy :
Maximum Nutrition dog food(I think that's a Walmart brand) other brands make our dogs sick
OB tampons
Skippy peanut butter
Tidy Cat cat liter
Quilted Northern toilet paper
Oil of Olay
I guess we are most picky on the non-food items, most canned foods (like vegetables I can't tell the difference).
Laurie :mouse:
Megareader 01-25-2002, 10:46 PM I am definitely not brand loyal. I look for the best buys but if the lowest price is a brand that I have had several bad experiences with then I don't buy that one.
aylasmommy 02-22-2002, 11:39 PM Yep there is nothing better than
Charmin tp, haven't found anything that is that soft AND that won't leave a ton of lint behind
Then my husband has to have his
Coca cola
I think a third or more of our grocery budget goes toward that alone!
I agree Heinz is the best but right now I'm still using up my Hunts Ketchup just because I saw that it was cheaper and I had no idea ketchups could taste so different:bang:
Oh and also Santita chips ( not sure about the spelling)
MANDERS 02-24-2002, 11:53 PM Name brand whats that?LOL We used to be real big on named brand stuff .But not no more.i will buy it if i can get it almost free, but that is about it.I guess Purex is a name brand but the only reason I buy it is I can get 200 loads for about $1.95 plus I use a coupon.I will drink off brand cokes, eat off brand cereals, use off brand cleaninng products(mostly use vingar and bleach)After using only name brands for so long and have now been using off brands for quite some time I really can't tell the difference in them. Most of the stuff like this is disposable so I guess it really doesn't matter to me.
Gloria 02-25-2002, 12:50 AM The only thing that I'm brand loyal to is Colgate Total Toothpaste. I got another brand really cheap and can't wait to get rid of my stockpile to get back to the Colgate. Heck, I'll probably even pay full price for it and not use a coupon! I figure it's cheaper in the long run to use it than to have high dental bills. For everything else, I'm not brand loyal and luckily my family isn't either. :)
mustang80 11-13-2002, 10:17 PM Definitely Heinz ketchup, Hellmann's mayo, Jif Peanut Butter, Kelloggs Raisin Bran and Frosted Flakes. Everything else is pretty much fair game if I have coupons.
captclearance 11-13-2002, 10:21 PM Not really.... some things I do not like and choose other products ....
SewCrafty 11-14-2002, 12:07 PM I didn't realise it until I read this post, but I think I am very brand loyal! :yikes:
Just a few are:
Hellman's mayo (although I will buy a cheaper brand for salads)
Heinz ketchup
Diet pepsi (dh's one splurge)
Purina Hairball Formula cat food
Scott TP
Dove (hand and body soap)
Folgers coffee (decaf and reg)
I can't think of any others right now, but I know my cupboard is full of them. Although I do get most of the items (except cat food, they never have coupons!) with double coupons.
mylittle4 11-14-2002, 01:07 PM OH my gosh I didn't realize how brand loyal I am either.
Dove bodywash
Dove deodorant
hellman's mayo
Diet Dr. Pepper
OB tampons
I prefer specific brands on a lot of other things too, but on these I won't budge
