Anyone have a tried and true recipe? Sara mochridh 01-24-2002, 11:25 AM not really a "recipe" so much as a method, but it always comes out great: slice some onions into rings - enough to fill a med sauce pan cook the onions in butter or marg in the saucepan over med-low heat to soften and caramelize. cook until nice and golden brown, stirring often. add enough water to cover and beef bouillon cubes to taste, depending on the amount of water added. adjust seasoning. simmer together for a bit. toast some thick bread slices. pour soup into overproof bowls, preferably individual serving size. float a slice of bread on each serving and cover with grated cheese (traditional is Guyere, I use mozarella), broil until cheese is lightly brown and bubbly. enjoy! Missy 06-08-2007, 07:46 PM my recipe is...open liptons (generic) box, pour powder into saucepan of boiling water. shred box into microscopic pieces and place in several waste recepticals in the house. While boiling the powder and water mixture, cut an onion into thin rings, place into pot. leave a few pieces in the sink or on the cutting board. Place cutting board in obvious place for family to see. leave salt , pepper and misc spices on counter. place a few pieces of parsely strategically in your hair. When family comes to kitchen for dinner, fall dramatically into a recliner and with great dramatic effect gesture to boiling soup. see where i am going with this?? muhahahaha AheeK 06-08-2007, 08:31 PM LOL Missy! frugalwanttobe 06-09-2007, 12:36 AM My mother has made us Rachael Ray's Onion Soup. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_22045,00.html The only thing that we did not add was sherry. It was absolutely delicious. I've made this "cheater" version before: http://www.recipezaar.com/41217 that starts with the mix-- it was good for something so quick and easy. I'm still looking for the perfect recipe, too, though. |
