I don't get the patterns at all. I understand the abbreviations (thanks to Diana's Tutorial in this forum) but i don't get the patterns. not one bit and I am getting frustrated, can anyone help??

Can you be more specific as to what is giving you trouble? Type in the pattern you are trying and tell me where you get stuck. I'll see if I can help.

Here's the crochet one: Crochet Slippers

Measurements: To fit foot lengths 5(7-9-11) ins 13(18-23-28)cm]. what does it mean that the numbers are int he parenthases?

Materials: Red Heart Classic, Art. E.267 2 (2 1/2 - 3 1/2) ozs. H (5.00mm) Crochet Hook

Guage: 12 sts and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] square measured over sc

Sole : make 16(22-26-30)ch what do the numbers in the parenthases mean? , work 1sc into 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc into each of next 13(19-23-27)ch parenthese again?? , 3 sc into last ch, then with the right side still facing, work along other side of starting ch as follows: Skip first ch, work 1 sc into each of next 13(19-23-27) ch, 2sc into last ch, place marker marker? as in a scrap piece of yarn as a place marker? 32(44-52-60)ch what??

Continuing with right side facing for every round and moving marker up on every round to mark beg of round work as follows

2nd round : work sc into each of first 14(20-24-28)sc, 2sc into each of the next 3 sc for toe, 1 sc into each of next 14 (20-24-28) sc, 3 sc into last sc for heel. do what?? is this sc into the ch i made at the end of the first part of the directions??

3rd round : Work 1 sc into each of the first 15(21-25-29)sc, 2sc, into each of the next 4sc, 1sc into each of next 16(22-26-30)sc, 3sc into next sc, 1 sc into last sc. 43(55-63-71) sc43(55-63-71) sc for what?? and where do i do these sc's?

The numbers in the parenthases are various sizes- the main instructions are written for a 5 inch or 13 cm foot. The other numbers inside the parenthases are the other sizes that are in the pattern.

The first number outside the parentheses is for the main pattern. If you are making it to fit a size 5 inch foot you would follow this number. If you are making it to fit a 7 inch foot, you would follow the first number INSIDE the parentheses and so forth. I find it easiest if I highlight the numbers I need before I start to stitch. Then I don't get as easily confused.
I use a scrap piece of contrasting color yarn- some people use safety pins- whatever works for you to mark the spot.

No- you crocheted in a circle fashion around the base chain on the first round. You are now on the second round. You will crochet in the first 14 single crochets of the first round, then 2 single crochets into each of the next 3 stitches- this will be an increase. Then back down the other side for 14 stitches , then increase again in the last 3 stitches for the heel.

If you are doing the first size, then you just ignore these directions. They do not exist ;)

I hope this helps you make sense of the pattern. Once you do a couple patterns, it all starts to fit together.

I'm not sure why it says ch at the end? My numbers though are 32 total stitches for the round. It is giving you a total number of stitches so you can count and make sure you have it right before moving on to the next round.
