Okay ladies, you convinced me.   I went out today and purchased I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting along with Beginner's Guid Ripple Afghans, 3 different size crocheting needles, along with a bunch of wool.

Tonight I'm going to tackle this.     Wish me luck!!

btw - the I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting as instructions and pictures for both right handed and left handed people.

Good Luck CJ. I LOVE to crochet, but only in cold months otherwise it is just too hot. My mother always crocheted and so did Lori, neither of them crocheted from patterns, they could just look at somethng and make it as they went along, well they had to pull a few stitches now and then, but overall very amazing talent.

As for me, I can crochet just about anything with a pattern and yarn. I cannot crochet with thread like doilies. I miss crocheting so much, my life is just too busy now, heck i can hardly keep up on reading!

Good luck I know you will catch on fast.

I have that beginner's book and it helped me. I just know you'll be awesome at it. I also bought "My Crochet Teacher" by Susan Bates and it was a kit that came with some hooks. I liked having both. They have a lot of the same info, but because I didn't know what the heck I was doing..I liked seeing different people describe what to do.

Enjoy your crocheting!

Well, after taking it about umpteen times, I finally figured it out.    I'm on my 4th row and kinda liking it.     I wish I could post a picture, but I'll take a picture and get it developed later.     I want to make an afghan for my mom for her birthday, so I need to get cracking at learning all the stitches.

After the 3rd try though, I was going to throw everything out, but knowing you ladies were cheering for me, kept me going.     How I wish my mom would have taught me this when she was doing all her crocheting years and years ago.

Yay CJ!!!! I am so happy for you! I knew you could do it.

I was just given a great book, if you can ignore the name somewhat, lol. It is a great book so far, easy to read, and easy to understand (at least i find it so)

"The Complete Idiots Guide To Knitting And Crochet"

Heh Melissa, I've read a number of the Complete Idiot's Guide books and love them.    Did you know they have one out for homeschooling as well.    Haven't read it yet, but its suppose to be good.

I'm going to look at my library and see if they have it.    Thanks for the suggestion.

CJ crochet is one of the most forgiving of needle arts in my opinion. If you make a mistake in one row, you can make up for it in the next if you dont keep repeating the same mistake. My biggest piece of advice for any learner is to count every row until you get the hang of it. Also, I use those plastic things that come on bread as markers if you need them, the ones you can buy in the stores cost too much as dont work as well.

Go CJ Go! I know you can do this. I tried my hand at crocheting years ago when the boys were little and loved it, just did the simple stiches. I found it very relaxing and you could pick it up and carry on, not like you have to pull out a bunch of stuff to get started. Or take it on appointments, that kind of thing.:smball:

Okay ladies, this is all your fault.  I stayed up until late last night learning a number of different stitches.    Once I got the hang of it and could remember what the stitch was, it was quite easy actually (quite surprising to tell you the truth).

So today, later after I get everything done, I'm going to start on an afghan.     You ladies are the best for encouraging others.
