Dd has been having problems with the boy who sits next to her in homeroom. Since the beginning of the school year he keeps "borrowing" her school supplies. But today really takes the cake. He got her package of rubber bands ( the kind for braces ) out of her desk and was playing with them. Ugh! She threw them out and let her teacher know what happened. The teacher says she will move him.

This totally grosses me out. Those rubber bands are for her mouth and the thought of someone having their hands on them makes me shudder. I am glad she tossed them. We drove to the orthodontist after school and got more rubber bands - they were horrified when I said what happened to the other ones.

Do you think I should also talk to the teacher so she will know I am aware of what happened and that this is a health issue?

I would wait a day or two, though I know that what he did is totally gross, thats a boy for you really. Give the teacher a chance to correct the problem, it may be the first time she has been made aware of it. If she hasn't taken action by Mon or so I would definatly have a nice talk with her. I have one of each and trust me boys just don't think.

I think I would send the teacher a thank you note for so swiftly assisting your dd and moving the little rodent away from her--maybe not in those exact words--but this way even if she has not yet moved him she will be guilted into immediate action and at the same time be made aware that you know what is going on--keep a copy so if you have to follow up with her superviser, you can prove that you contacted her. This way it looks like you are putting complete faith in the teacher, while actually controlling the situation yourself. I am the queen of passive-agressive :D

When I picked up dd from school today she said he had not been moved yet, she asked her teacher about it at the end of the day and was told the teacher forgot but would do it on Monday. Dd is pretty persistant, I'm sure she'll say something again Monday morning. I think I'll wait till Monday to give the teacher a chance to what she has promised.
