Help! I need ideas on how to store my stockpile...I have just started to stock up on loss leader and coupon items. I am having trouble seeing everything in my walk in pantry. Items are getting put away in layers and I can't see some things. Any tips on how to store items.

Also....what items are safe to store in the garage and not be spoiled from the heat or cold?

Can you safely store items in the laundry room? Or is it too humid? (my laundry room does not have a window)

Thank you for all the helpful tips!

Here's a sight with a little information about storing food. I keep most of mine in the basement and in a closet downstairs. I think I read that storing food in cool, dark places is best.

Storage Guidelines (http://www.foodstorage.net/guides.htm)

Hope this gives you a little help.

My pantry is in my laundry room and there's no window so I don't think you'll have any sort of problem with food storage there.

I keep out in the garage things like dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, vinegar (stuff that's in large bottles that take up a lot of room). You could also store paper towels and toilet paper in the garage provided they are wrapped in plastic. I know a lot of people that store soda in their garages, but I would be afraid the heat would make the soda go flat more quickly (I don't really know though because I don't drink soda).

I just 're-arranged' my pantry last night after I went shopping and stocked up on some deals. I'm fortunate to have a large enough kitchen to store most of my stuff, although I don't have a 'pantry'. I do have lots of cupboard space so I get most of it in. I keep all like items together. Mayonaisse is stored in a single file line to the back of the cupboard. Right next to that is the ketchup, BBQ sauce, salad dressings, vinegar all lined up in their own little rows. All the pasta is together, sugar (white, brown and confectioners), flour and rice in the freezer. The only thing I have stacked on top of each other is canned foods. Tomato sauce, veggies, soups etc. I double stack these but they're still in their single file line.

The only thing I keep in the garage are paper towels that are singley (sp?) wrapped, bleach, laundry soap, cat litter, pet foods, dishwasher detergent. DH is supposed to be getting some shelving to put out there so I can store more, but even then it will only be stuff that bugs/mice can't get into....maybe canned goods. As it gets very hot here in the summer I'd be concerned about storing too much food out there, but I don't know if that's a legitimate concern or not?
