This week has been fun fun fun dealing with claims people and estimators.

Earlier in the week, an estimator finally came to look at the brick damage from last spring.

Then yesterday someone came to remove the ice off our roof and today someone came by to dry our ceiling, take pictures, and look for other damage from the ice.

We have damage in the attic that is above our front porch and damage in our livingroom on the ceiling.

They drilled holes in the ceiling and have fans and a dehumidifier going here. Both need to run until Monday. On Monday another estimator comes to assess the damage.

I just can't wait for these things to be done and over with. :(

Gabe has a business trip rolling around in a couple of weeks and wants us all to go. (To Quebec) I have school obligations with Zachary and this mess to deal with and don't want to go. ugh

Is it spring yet?

Wow, too many strangers working on things. That would get my back up too. Having that dehumidifier going all weekend won't make the electric bill very nice either.:(
About time someone came to look at those bricks, sheesh.
Hope everythings put right soon.

On a happy note I love your cookie. That is a cute commercial, it's too funny when it dawns on him why he's there.;)

Sara,
You certainly have your hands full. Just think happy, warm Spring thoughts and eat chocolate. I hope Zachary and little Alexandra are not driven crazy by all these strangers being around and this noisy stuff trying to dry out the house. BTW do you call both your little ones by their names or a shorter version of it? I want to call Alexandria (whose name I probably have spelled wrong) little super dumpling cause she's so cute in all her pictures. LOL

Sara, I'm so sorry this is happening. Houses can sure cost when it comes to repairs. Will the ice build up be an insurance claim (hopefully so it doesn't cost so much).

I can't believe it took all that time for them to come about the brick. Unreal!!

I love the little guy in your siggy as well. Too cute!!

I feel your pain Sara...I actually hated every minute that I had the plumbers and workers for the bathroom re-do here. I really hate having strangers in my house.

Well, supposedly this week they are supposed to start soda blasting the exterior of the house. I have been warned it's quite messy and they won't attempt it in rainy or windy weather. I've also been warned that it will most likely kill some grass and any landscaping near the house. They will reseed, but I am unsure what they will cover landscaping wise. There isn't too much planted there, so I am not too worried. I guess they will tarp all around the house when they do the job and I certainly will be taking pictures. lol

I am hoping this works on the brick problem and am still waiting to hear if the insurance company accepted the appraisal to do the entire house. I'm concerned about the brick looking hideous and not matching if they didn't accept the entire appraisal. I don't even want to think about anything going wrong. I know some mortar may need to be replaced and also know some paint may be blasted off the windows too. I wish they were coming on Thursday or Friday as Gabe has those days off and we could just leave the house.

I assume the interior work will be done right afterward. I'll be glad when this is done and over.

is there any way you could tarp off things too? maybe some goodwill sheets to protect a favorite bush if you need to or something? That might help, I don't know. :) I hope they are careful and that your landscaping doesn't get too hurt by their traffic. I'll cross my fingers that the insurance company accepts the entire appraisal. :)

So...what's the latest?

Now they are supposedly coming on Wednesday if there isn't any rain in the forecast. Our insurance company doesn't want to pay for the other two sides of the house to be done. The repair company has tried talking with them too because they agree that the brick will not match once they do the work.

I'm way too frustrated with it, but obviously am not going to get far with my insurance company when all they keep doing is wanting to talk about "line of sight" which is how they determine how much work is to be done. Not for nothing, but if my house isn't in the condition it was in before the damage, why would I pay out a deductible and even file a claim or even pay for insurance in the first place kwim?

That is so stressfull Sara. I'm sorry you're having to deal with them all. I agree, you pay to repair it to it's original state.

We had a huge fight with our insurance company over some major repairs and it was so aggravating but we won in the end. Hope you do too.

They tried to do the soda blasting today. It didn't work! I'm not paying for this!!!

Now they're talking about possibly trying to stain the brick. This is nuts!

They brought in a masonry expert out of VA. He is here now with another guy and they are scraping the glue off with chisels. After the glue is off, they will be dyeing the brick.

The guy working on it now has full confidence that he can do this job and that I'll be happy with the results.

I told him the last guys trampled my peony bushes and if he could please be careful about my plants. lol He was funny. He said I love plants too and not to worry.
Landscape damage isn't covered by my insurance, so I hope those weren't his famous last words.

Glad that they're there fixing things. I hope you're happy with their work and that they don't ruin any of your plants.
