Hello. I found this site by searching for "modest clothing" online. I would like to find out how to go about moving toward wearing skirts and dresses all the time instead of the jeans that I typically wear each day (except for Church and special occassions), so if you have any suggestions, they would be quite welcome! I am 55 years old, a grandmother and mother and wife of the same good man for 33 years. :)

Hi there and welcome aboard!
The best suggestion I can give on wearing skirts and dresses is to jsut start wearing them all the time. I did for awhile and they went back to tees and shorts. But the dresses (to me) are much nicer to wear. I am working on getting back to that myself or at least wearing dressy clothes. It makes you feel so pretty and sexy!:D

:) Thank you all so much! I recall that when I was "young" (I am 55) we always wore dresses or skirts to school. Even through High School. It must be when I was in college that changed because by the time I graduated, I wore jeans all the time except for Church and special events. Well, Friends, this morning I have a skirt on. Granted, it is a denim skirt, but I feel so much more feminine and it's so comfortable. Another question - since I've worn pants, all I ever wear on my feet is running shoes. I have weak arches and so have to wear something quite supportive. Those of you who wear dresses, what sort of shoes and socks do you wear? Thank you again for your kind welcome.

Hi loves2spin! Welcome to the village!

Running shoes with a denim skirt is perfectly acceptable. If I need more support in my shoes, I tend to buy a ½ size larger and then buy the good Dr. Scholl's inserts with arch support. That way I can change them from one pair of shoes to another and still have style and arch support. ;)

Welcome to the Village!Nice to have you here, just jump on in!
I like this look in dresses, you can wear it casual or dress it up with some fancy jewlery.
I like the sandals with it too. Don't forget to click to see it on the model.;)http://www.jjill.com/ShopJJillDetail.asp?SID=&AreaID=OL&SizeID=3&txtproductId=616979&txtQueryID=&SubCat=&selDept=1&absPage=1&OfferID=N4+&shopperid=2E5AD8JCXP598KN33UQUTG874LT32789

If you sew,it looks like a nice type of dress to make inexpensivly in wonderful summerweight fabrics. Basic long T dress I guess. I used to wear simular dresses but with short sleeves & jean skirts too in the summer. Usually found me barefoot with them on,lol.

Oh you sound like a fun addition to our sewing ladies! WELCOME! I'm Margery btw, and there are some fun links over in the sewing section so that you can browse to your hearts content.

I like the dresses that Kwik Sew has in their pattern line.

I'm 47 I think, going on 48 this summer, I'm a SAHM. I quit nursing to homeschool our teens thru highschool, and they are long since launched into university working on their degrees and working their way thru.

Ds works at a bank half time as a teller with an eye to getting into banking when he graduates, and dd works slinging donuts and coffee while she studies for a degree in biology. We aren't sure what she is going to do with it. Some days she wants to be a teacher others, it's research.

Dh works here in Kamloops for the local electric company, and I putter around my garden with my beloved Dozer dog who is a border collie cross female.

I also teach a ladies bible study at our church, I like to sew, knit, and cook particularly OAMC style cooking. I also like cleaning my house but I'll admit I'm a bit odd. I like Jazz, opera, classical and some classic rock music and Star Trek with a little physics on the side. I dabble in homeopathic and herbal remedies, and enjoy reading.

I'm hoping you enjoy yourself here, and have fun getting to know all of us.:D

What nice people you all are. Our children are all grown now and out on their own, well, except the youngest who is 20 and serving a mission for church right now. He'll be back in February of next year and then have to figure out his future. We have 8 grandchildren and one on the way, August 1st, a girl to be added to 3 brothers! So that is very nice and exciting. One son lives just 8 miles away, but the others are far away. One in California, one in Las Vegas and one in Florida. At least they settled in fun places to visit! But we do miss them. My husband is a quality assurance manager at a powdered metal company. He is an angel and so good to me. I like to sew, tat, cook, garden, make bread, knit, spin and weave. I don't do all of those things all the time, but I'm old enough to have had time to dabble in alot of things. I also enjoy reading good books and learning new things. This morning I spent going to town with my husband to take the dog for her yearly physical and also a few other errands. We had such a good time and I was so glad I was wearing a skirt! You are right. Skirts are cooler. I have thought about going to dresses and skirts in the past, but never got it off the ground. I really think I will this time. And yes, I love to sew, so all I need is a few good patterns. I would like to make some pantaloons (sp?) for the wintertime. Is there a pattern somewhere for that? I have read about OAMC, but never done it. However, I am into home food storage. Now that it's just the two of us, I often cook enough of something that I can freeze enough for one or two more meals and then when that accumulates I have nice meals ready made. Last winter we put up a temporary greenhouse like in the book FOUR SEASON HARVEST by Elliot Coleman. It was immensely successful! We had lovely fresh greens all winter. Once it's going in the fall, really there is almost nothing left to do except harvest food when you want it. I highly recommend it. We have our own chickens and they roam the yard so we have really yummy fresh eggs. We do eat some meat, but not much. Mainly whole grains, fruit, vegetables and some fish and eggs. Not that we NEVER eat other things. We aren't zealots about our food, but we are old enough we try to take our health pretty seriously. Well, Friends, thank you again!

I recently knitted a nice poncho for myself. I would like to post a picture here to show you. Can anyone tell me if that is possible and how to do it? Thank you.

Hi loves2spin and welcome.

I found something on Frugal Village Home page that might be of interest to you. Sara has provided a wealth of links for "Modest Dress" at http://www.frugalvillage.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to Links and click on the 5th heading down the center called Modest Dressing. There are 3 link pages available with lots of different interest.

It was very interesting and there may be tips that we haven't covered here.

As far as posting the pics? Well, I don't think I've every added a pic except for my avatar but there are lots of people here that do it all the time. Post a request for help in the Frugal Village Herald under the Sub-Forum, Little Red School House.

Someone will see it quicker and help you out. I know it's easy, I just don't explain things well.

Again, welcome and enjoy the boards.:D

Thank you so much! I have been successful in switching over to skirts and dresses and I really like it. I still have my jeans in a drawer and may get them out to pick blackberries later this summer, I suppose, to keep the poison ivy off my legs! :)
