I have two Airedales that both have flea collars and have Frontline applied every month. We live on the edge of a rain forest and a creek so we have a lot of ticks, and in the summer, a lot of fleas. I hate using the flea collars on the dogs and I'd like to get rid of them. I thought about soaking a small bit of their leather dog collars in eucalyptus oil as a flea deterrant. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a natural alternative to the dreaded chemical flea collar? I do grow pennyroyal but I've heard it can cause problems in dogs.

A little warning about "Frontline" - I've heard from many owners that have applied this to their dogs. It caused "Hot Spots" on the dogs along with ulcers on their skin. Many dogs have allergies to it and unless you know if your dog is allergic to it, don't use it!

I use a flea/tick coller on all my dogs called "Preventic". It works! I've never had any ticks or fleas on any of my dogs. The last for 3 months before having to be replaced. And they don't harm the animal.

We live in the heart of "tick" country! Right in the woods! So if they work for our dogs, they'll work for yours.

I don't know of any thing else that works as well.
