View Full Version : Does anyone else enjoy fire pits?
dolphin 03-19-2002, 05:04 PM During spring we get the urge to be outside but it's just a little too cold in the evening.
We dug a deep hole in the ground, put some sand in the bottom and some bricks around it. We love to build fires and sit around and talk and be together as a family. Sometimes we even cook hot dogs and marshmellows on it. We keep an old barbeque grill handy to put over the fire so no one can fall in and you can cook your food on it.
Just thought I would share.
Any one else have things they like to do as a family that does'nt cost anything and you don't have to go anywhere. Please share.
:)
We have a fire pit in our yard, too. We use it a lot in the spring, summer, and fall. We cook hot dogs, marshmallows, s'mores, and we even have a popcorn popper for making popcorn over a campfire. It is fun, relaxing, and, like you said, it doesn't cost a lot. Whenever we have a campfire, it acts like a magnet and draws the neighbors over to stop and say hello and maybe even cook a marshmallow.

MANDERS 03-27-2002, 12:37 AM Actually it isn't a fire pit but we do burn leaves quite a bit and when it starts to get dark it is so pretty and relaxing.
I was just telling dh this morning, now that spring is here and we won't be able to use the fire place inside, that I want to make a fire pit outside. I love to be outside on a chilly summer night sitting around an open fire roasting marshallows and hot dogs. So I need to ask a uncle if I can have some old bricks that he isn't using and has stacked against an old building. Can't wait to get it done and have my first fire outside.
COUNTRYBUMPKIN 05-02-2002, 04:54 PM Yes we do immensly here. We have one here in the country and two of them at our summer place. thats where we do most of our entertaining. Nothing like a good fire outdoors or a good brisket that you cook over a fire
simplemom 05-03-2002, 09:42 AM When I was a young girl at home, we would have a fire in the evening at our country place. We would sing songs and burn marshmallows...it was fun...I felt in security surrounded with my parents and sister and the tall, tall trees....
PrairieRose 05-09-2002, 11:19 AM We don't have a "pit" but we have one of those portable outdoor fireplaces (made by coleman I think). Honestly we've only used it a few times as we have a lot of wind and the smoke just about chokes us to death. Maybe we're not using it right or something...?
taylor97 05-17-2002, 01:22 PM We have one. We put all the fallen limbs into it from our property. When we have enough, my dh makes a fire. Sometimes we roast marshmallows and hot dogs.
CAGmomof2 05-17-2002, 03:08 PM We don't have a fire pit but we do have a little barbque!!:)
The Fire Pit sounds so interesting !! :)
TEXASGARDENNANA 06-03-2002, 01:20 AM Firepits are fun and the grandkids love cooking s'mores, hotdogs, etc over ours which is made from a washing machine tub! that sits on brick foundation, son brought the idea from CA to our Texas hillcountry backyard. Ghost stories, growing up in the country stories and hot cocoa by the fire is fun too
Heather 02-04-2003, 08:47 PM We have a fire pit out back and pretty much every Saturday night we have a fire with marshmallows and/or hotdogs!! Kids love it and so do I, I love being there with everyone and looking up at the stars!! We sometimes will invite over the neighbours!
mylittle4 02-04-2003, 08:50 PM We do not have one right now, but when we buy a house it will be one of the first things we do!
mrscornbread 02-04-2003, 10:53 PM I have this dream, the problem is I can't make DH see my dream. I have so many bricks that I took up out of the yard and they are staked up behind my garage. I want to make some kind of fire pit, not necessarily a BBQ, but for fire. I am inspired again and will begin bugging him. He could do it since he is at home all day right??? Okay, asny ideas for a nice broick one would be appreciated, many minds are better than one!!!
QuilterMom 10-21-2004, 04:19 PM I am campaigning heavily for dh to build one for us! Right after we moved here I dug up all sorts of bricks out of an area of the yard (former owners had just dumped them there and they got buried by dirt and grass). It would be a perfect way to use those.
kimmee 10-21-2004, 04:32 PM We dont have an actual fire pit yet but it is part of our back yard design. Right now I have a huge Chiminea theat we use up on our back deck - its very nice and warm, pretty to look at.
pqb52 10-21-2004, 05:09 PM It is illeagal to have an open firwe in our town, but during the summer my wife found one of those metal fire things thatb someone was throwing out so we hasd quite a few fires over the summer and fall.
Ellise 10-22-2004, 10:35 AM We love our fire pit just not real safe to use around our dogs. I really want a small to medium Chiminea for the front porch since we sit there more often.
