View Full Version : Rant: WalMart photo studios

Has anyone else had trouble with the WalMart photo people being unbelievably pushy?  I went to pick up DD's photos today, planning to only purchase the package I'd signed up for~ a number of photos for $3.98.   And that's all I bought, but you would have thought I'd committed a crime!  :toothy:

That saleswoman actually managed to embarrass me, as she tried to make me feel like I was a terrible person because I didn't want to spend "only" $59 to get a bunch more pictures. (Not good pictures, either!)   She really laid on the guilt trip about not wanting more pics of my "adorable" daughter.... told me what rooms of my home each one should be hung in... etc.   It was so frustrating!   I kept telling her that I couldn't afford to spend any more, and she would just ignore me and keep talking.  :bang:

Finally, I told her to just stop because I wasn't buying anything but my package-- the look she gave me was so hateful.  I walked away from there mad and annoyed.

The pictures are nice, nothing wonderful, but OK.

I'll write to the company later today, as that's the second store I've visited, and both times I left feeling mad and irritated at how I was treated for not buying extra pictures.  If they don't want to sell just the advertised package, they should state that in the advertising!

When I go pick up the picks, i have gotten to the point where i state right away, i only will be buying the advertised pkg. I tell them they can go on if they wish, but that I am not going to change my mind, or my spending choice. they pretty much leave it at that, and don't get pushy anymore. Best of luck, I would write that letter. It is annoying when they get pushy like that.

Our local WalMart takes pretty good pictures. I average about $40 a session and I take my 2-yr old twice a year. My gripe about the WalMart packages is we end up with WAY too many 3x5's and wallets. The 5x7's or 4x6's are just right for sending to relatives. My girlfriend is recommending Penny's. We may try that next. I figure we'll spend about the same amount but maybe the selection will be better. One thing I do like about WalMart is they offer the 10x13 as apart of their package. Penny's doesn't.

As far as pushiness, I have an attitude that it's the same as buying a car. It's my decision if I'm going to spend the money and, frankly, I could care less about the salesperson's opinion of me.

I just want to let you all know that we do not work on commision!! And in fact, when the photographer gets pushy it is because he/she is on the verge of being unemployed. If we get "ad-packed" too many times we will be fired. That's what happened to me and many of my co-workers. I have 6 children in my care and a hefty mortgage that we cannot pay any longer. Just be aware that the advertised special is actually an $80.00 collection with a cheap price tag to get you through the front door. I understand totally if your income does not allow you to buy more portraits, but there are those customers that do not believe that their childs portraits are worth the money. I have lost my mother and 2 children of my own. And pictures are all we have left.

Ok, this is the 2nd post ever by Crystal, both about WM portrait studios and she wants to inform all of us that she was fired because people ordered only the advertised package from Picture Me. Crystal, the company advertised that package to get people in the store...the people came, but are not obligated to buy anything else. I'm sorry you lost your job. But, I'm beginning to think you only joined this site to cause trouble.

Smells kinda like a troll to me.

Please post about how having lost your job you need some help with financial issues. That is what Frugal Village is about, we'd be glad to give you any advice or ideas to get through difficult financial times.

I don't get trolls, why on earth would browse a site and ONLY comment on the Walmart pic stuff? Or any other troll behavior. Sounds like someone needs to get a life to me. :loser:

I don't know which Picture Me you worked at but that WAS NOT true for the one I did. (BTW i didn't get fired. I quit because I moved from one end of the country to the other.)

I actually worked there a looong time ago, also. I still have a friend who manages one of the studios. The photographers don't work for commission, exactly. But, they do get small bonuses if/when they sell some of the larger packages. At least it still worked that way right after they got bought out/merged with the company that does Sear's pictures last year.
