I've always paid our's on about the 8th, 9th or 10th...depending what is going on around the house at the time. I'll be paying quite a few of them today and probably finishing up tomorrow since I have so much to do still, from the hallway mess (had to stop to move dd back to college town). Anyway I was just wondering how you guys do it? I prefer to pay them all at once and be done with it but I know some people do it a bit at a time.

I pay all the smaller bills at the beginning of the month, and the mortgage and two car payments on the 15th of the month. Dh only gets paid twice a month so I have to pay bills when the money comes in.

We get paid on the first (why did we opt for the once a month pay again?!?! :bang: ) so I usually pay all the bills together as close to the first as possible! (keeps me from spending it on other things too!)

There's sooooo many days between the first & the first...... :(

As they come in. I can't stand thinking they'll be late. If we don't have the $$ right then, as soon as we get paid, the bill gets paid.

We pay the bills twice a month, on DH's paydays.

Every payday which happens every two weeks, different bills come end of month and mid month. First payday of the month is the worst. that is our "skinniest" grocery allowance.

I pay our bills on the 15th and 30th, when we get paid.

Same here. DH gets paid every 2 weeks. The first pay period is the worst, but everything gets paid.

Then on DH's 2nd pay period, I usually get paid by then too. I get paid once a month(the 25th). This is when we pay most of the bills, especially the bigger bills AND stock up on groceries as much as possible.

We pay them every week in a sense. I have a spending plan set up for each week/month and the bills that get paid out of each paycheck. DH gets paid weekly and me every other week.

On the weeks when he gets paid and I don't, we have gas, groceries, allowances and entertainment money. The other weeks when we both get paid, we pay the rest of the bills. Most of our bills are paid electronically so I just have to write in the bill and the amount in and the company (ie: Gas, electric, cable) takes it out on the day it is due. With this system, we have never been late with any bills.

I have a spreadsheet that I use each month. If anyone is interested, please email me and I can send a copy and explain my method in greater detail.

We do the exact same thing. Sometimes if we dont have the money I will set it up to be paid on online banking to come out the day we get paid next.

I usually pay bills once a month, a few days before the first due date. I pay online so I can adjust the pay date depending on when each bill is due (I set it for at least a few days before each is due). I have a place in the front foyer where I pile the bills and I see them everytime I come in the house so I don't forget about them.

Most of mine get paid automatically, but as far as bills that I actually have to sit down and PAY. I do that once a month or so. When I see the basket of bills getting a little thick, I go thru them and pay them all at one time.

We've always been paid once a month, and now the pension check comes once a month. That was good for us, as most bills are once a month. We made sure that everything was due about 1 week after payday, and then paid them all at once. I knew once that was done, and once we put some money into savings, that the rest could go for food and extras. It really helped me stay on track.

Every Friday, I pay what came in that week. I keep a calendar showing what should be coming in to pay and what should be coming in to pay with, so I know exactly where all the $ is going.
This also kept me from missing a bill that never showed up in the mail, because I was able to see that I should be paying it that week - saved a late fee:)

Right now the only ones I need to actually sit down and pay are Dave's car, the gas for the house, and the CC if we happen to use it. I do that at the beginning of the month, but I set it up so that they're not actually taken out of our bank account until the middle of the month after Dave gets his second paycheck.

I noticed that this is a REALLY old post (not to say that PrairieRose is really old or anything like that!)

But I pay them as the come in. In one day... out the next.
It's gotten to the point that when I happen to be out in the yard when the mailman comes... he says to me .. "you want me to wait here while you pay that bill?"

Best to just get it done now. (I think that most nurses do that- it's been our training to "do it now"- because you can easily forget something in your daily chaos.)

As long as I have the money, I pay them as they come in. If we don't happen to have the money as they come in, then I put the bill in the checkbook, and when we get paid, I pay them immediately.

I grew up with parents who waited to pay the bills all on a certain day, and then often would forget to do so on that day or by the time that day came around, the money was gone. Creditors calling the house looking for money taught me a lesson early in life. Pay it when it comes in, because I never want to be late on a payment. Ever.

I pay them as they come in, it usually works out to 4 bills to pay with my first paycheck and 1 bill with my 2nd paycheck of the month, then savings and gift money comes from the 2nd paycheck after I know my bills have been paid on time :).

I pay my bills on the day I get my bonus check, once a month.

My dh gets paid weekly so we pay bills based on priority or $$ amount. Since getting paid weekly his checks are smaller than once per month i have to pay say the Electric bill then pay a small bill along with that plus keep money out for gas to get him back and forth to work. Now since everything we have is due the 1st-10th of the month we are always late on something. Nothing ever gets shut off but i do have those darn late fees that add up. The first paycheck of the month always goes towards the house payment so the only thing that is left is enough money for gas for the week and that is it.

Most of our bills are paid online automatically so what I have to remember is to make sure the account is funded because they are automatically deducted.

The few bill that do come in the mail rarely I just
pay as they come in.

I have a schedule by week. It's all written down now in a book but still struggling to get up the mortgage on time every month. It's paid but usually not til the last week of the month. Ugh!

I pay my bills bi-weekly or each time DH get's paid.

Paycheck that comes at the beginning of the month, pays half the mortgage and the electric.

Paycheck that comes 2 weeks after that pays half the mortgage, cell phones and internet.

I have it set up that way because the electric is due at the beginning of the month and the internet and cell phones are due around the 25th each month, so it works out perfect for me.

Our bills get paid twice a month. I keep them all written in a notebook (so I always know nothing was missed & what day it is due) and I hi-light them as they are paid and mailed. I always have my mortgage payment written out on the 1st paycheck (though it doesn't need to be written till the next paycheck), and we stay a month ahead, and I always wait till closer to the due date to mail it......meaning there is a "cushion" most of the time in the checkbook just in case anything comes up.

I pay them within 1 or 2 days as they come in. They are never late that way & it isn't so much writing at once for my arthritic hands. Works for me.---katkat

I paid mine as they come. We have finally gotten to the point where we are one month ahead with our paychecks. So I never have to worry about not having enough money in the bank when I write the checks.

I used to do them once a month. Then bimonthly.

But now I have write the stupid credit card bill the day or so after it comes in!! The sneaks have really shortened the "due date" and it isn't considered "on time" unless it is in their hands and they have OPENED it. I really am apalled that they don't go by postmark like the rest of life.

Usually at the first of the month then mid month a couple trickle in . I would rather pay them all at once, but a couple don't get the statements sent out till mid month.

I save a certain amount from my hubbys weekly checks to pay the majority at the beginning of the next month. I had to work the bills I pay out of my check to get one month ahead on them though because I only get paid monthy , around third week of month for previous months work so it has actually been a blessing that I had to that. It gives me a little wiggle room if ever need be. [/QUOTE]

I keep a spreadsheet on a monthly basis for each bill I track how much it is and what the due date is. Each time we get paid, mine is the 7th and 22nd and dh's is EO Thursday, so on my first paycheck the car gets paid and on the 2nd paycheck the house gets paid. I also look to see what else is due and pay that. I normally do it every 2 weeks when I get paid. Dh's check has money coming out automatically for his car and debt consolidation loan. It works well for us and the bill companies don't get their money until the bill is due so I can earn interest on it in the meantime.

I pay them as they come in. I keep the bill money in a non-interest bearing checking account, so I like to take care of them ASAP.

We do neither. We actually pay bills three times a month. Partly because we pay some at the beginning and some in the middle of the month. Then because I get a commission payment from work, there are some bills we pay on that week, which is the third week of the month. Weird, I know, but it works for us.

I pay when we can. Sometimes the bills are late if money coming in is late. I have a business that is based on sales. I might not have enough $ when the bill comes in to pay it but it does go in a holder until we do have the $.

I schedule payment for all regular bills via my bank's online billpayer feature as SOON as each bill comes in. I've also got all regular bills set up in Quicken with reminders at least a week prior to the date so that I can pay them even if the paper bill gets lost in the mail or accidentally shredded (it's happened).

I actually log on to my checking account and reconcile it against Quicken daily. My husband is good about saving his receipts and we use the debit card most of the time (instead of cash) so we can track how the money is spent pretty easily. Daily reconciliation may sound like overkill but I find it so much easier than trying to reconcile once a month against a paper statement.
