With two teenagers (one a graduate) out there seriously looking for full-time employment, I've suddenly realized that Minimum Wage is not the same Nationwide....( :coffee: smell the coffee Deb....) I just never gave it any thought, I guess.....

Our Minimum Wage here is $5.15 and hour....
It seems both way low & way high at the same time....

It seems low when I think of the responsibility that employers want from their employees....I'm sorry, but I think I'd want a little more than $5.15 an hour to be the one in charge of closing a Taco Bell at the end of the night.....

It seems high when I think of what minimum wage was when I satarted working back in the dark ages....I think it was $2.85 then.....

Anyway - what's minimum wage where you are?!

Wahington States minimum wage is $7.16 per hour. Tip credit is not allowed so even tipped employees are still paid at the rate of $7.16 an hour. The training /youth wage applies to workers under the age of 16 and is $6.09 per hour.

Here it's $ 7...something...canadian....I think it's near the $8.00....

I agree with you Debbie...$5.15 is not alot for the responsibility of working late and closing a Taco Bell, like you say.

Here is a list I found online. I do not understand how Kansas gets away with having such a low wage...$2.65. I thought it was federal law that states had to be at what the federal government places the minimum wage at which at this time is $5.15 .

As you can see from the table my partner in crime fighting(the invincible Kathy) has posted, the min. wage here is $5.15.
Ds has one job that started him at $6hr. and another at $5.50. Dd started at min for training (2 days, lol.) and then went up to $6.10.

Here in Massachusetts, servers make something like $2.65 an hour. Regular wage is $6.75

I think maybe there is a minimum wage here (in AZ) despite the table posted...I want to say it's $5.15 as well...

I do know for a fact (as a waitress) that servers (waitstaff) get $2.13 per hour.

And waiting tables in the middle of summer here, I wish that were more like $20.13 an hour!

Wow! I am amazed that states can have no min. wage rate too. I can't imagine having a family on $5.15 an hour.

It's $5.15 here to with servers getting $2.15 +tips. I think that is way low...I don't know how a family could make it on that...We are lucky that dh's company pays its employers more that that!!

And speaking of working at Taco Bell late at night, ours just got robbed last night at 1:30AM....sooooooo good point Debbie!!

Like the chart says ours here is 5.15 but when I was a waitress I made 2 something and they just assumed with your tips it would all even out. I make more than minimum wage now but hardly. Not easy.

Definately an eye opener here. Never knew states could have NO minimum wage. I also thought it was mandated by the Fed. government.

I live in Kansas, where servers get even less than the $2.65 minimum. Minimum wage for servers is $2.13. I think the $2.65 only applies to certain "domestic help" like childcare workers, and farm workers. Very sad, I know. Most businesses (other than those that employee tipped servers) pay the Federal minimum wage.

Here is a link to the federal website for the department of labor.

http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/wages/minimumwage.htm

Minimum wage is $5.85 an hour effective July 2007. Here in SC it is $5.85 and no more. I make $2.13 an hour as a tipped employee.

Some states differ and are higher, but all states must pay at least the Federal Min.

Its going up (federal) in July of this year.

It's gone up twice in the past two years in AR, and is scheduled to go up again. I believe it will go up to $7.25 or $7.15 or something, I know it is over $7. When I started working (at walmart) I got paid $1.25 over the current minimum wage ($5.15) each time the MW went up, everyone who had been hired within the past two years got a 50 cent raise (which was nice). I know it's going up again, but I've been more than 2 years so I won't get the 50 cent increase.

mombottoo

$7.15 an hour currently, but I think it's due for an increase sometime this year.

What is the minimum wage?
Effective January 1, 2007, the minimum wage will increase to $7.65 per hour. For minors working in agriculture or government, it is 85% of minimum wage, and for minors working in other industries, it is 85% for the first 200 hours. This is covered in Section 31-58 and Section 31-58a of the CT State Statutes.

I had to look it up I really wasn't quite sure. Most of the teenagers here are making around $8.00/hr. and up.
