of the latte factor.

Term coined by David Bach that has been on Oprah.

Here's a bit of his insight...

We all have something. I plan to fund my new savings a bit from paycheck and a bit from cutting out some small money leaks here at home.

What's something you can cut to save? I cut pop, but instead of investing that savings, I allowed it to just be absorbed into our budget. :(

NO MORE...I am going to cut some things and invest my savings.

You know I did the same with pop.

I also use to save all the money from coupons whenever I used coupons. But I got lax with that as well.

Its interesting because when I was at frugal moms we had a challenge and everything time I saved on something, I paid myself the amount I saved. I was able to purchase insulation for our house in the city and bought myself a 6 qt. KA with the savings.

this is a great idea. it gives an incentive to give up little extras.

Hmmmmmm

I make all my coffee at home and actually got about 6 more months worth stocked up that I paid nothing or next to nothing for.

I drink about 1 pop a week, if that, and I have enough to last a year.

We only eat out for mystery shops, and maybe once a month.

No vending machines.

Candy and gum, gotta have gum, hoping for a great sale with coupons soon cause I'm almost out. I have a lot of mints though. I refuse to pay mor than 12¢ for a pack of gum anyway.

Newspapers and magazines, all free.

Long distance/cell phone, flat rate long distance $20/mo, cell phone included in dh's job.

Kid's lunches, free lunch at school ... hmmm, planning to dual enroll, can I send him to school for lunch?

Gas, fares, tolls, only go to town to shop if I can do a mystery shop too to pay for the gas and lunch!

I guess that leaves cigarettes. That could be ugly. I do plan on trying to quit again soon. Still not $5/day though.

Thinking......................

Can you take the amount that you save with coupons/rebates and invest the money into an account? or do you already do that?

I used to use coupons every grocery trip and never socked away what I saved. :(

Its really interesting how quickly that adds up Sara. Even with the small amount of coupons we have here in Canada, I still saved.

Also if you get rebates back, don't use the cash. Put it into savings right away.

I always intended to place my savings into an account and never did. I always used to even post what I saved in coupons.

I've really cut out many small things that are now a habit (pop, packaged snacks etc) and never once placed my savings into an account.

I'm going to take a look at things again and see if I can find anything new and get started. (even if it's just pennies)

I'm really intrigued by this. I've heard it all before, but something stuck this time. Now, I'll be 83 years old in 41 years, but if I could teach this to my kids it could make a real difference in their lives. Teaching ds not to be wasteful has been a challenge, but I think this would really interest him.

The couponing and rebates are pretty much part of the budget, to keep those expenses down so we can pay other bills (my internet and fancy phone service). I use 1/2 of the $ we get from the papers they sell at Casey's for "my" money, for groceries, ds's allowance, entertainment and whatever else. It's about $250 a month. It's pretty tight. I've been trying to save the other 1/2 for Christmas and emergencies. I only socked away $50 last month. (I did some Christmas shopping on Amazon too though, but not $200 worth)

C'mon now, quitting smoking would be a GOOD thing!

I totally agree. It's not anything new, but I haven't been applying it.

Interesting! I, too, have heard it before, but I'm going to take a second look to see what we could cut out. We don't buy soda or coffee or any of that stuff, but I'm sure there is somewhere we have a leak!

It's amazing...isn't it....I think about doing this for my boys--I have had this discussion with the older 3---I told them to save as as soon as they work--even if it's not much--never touch it and it will grow and by 40 or 50 yrs old I told them they would be rich....I wish I would have known this earlier for myself...I *discovered* this a few years ago, unfortunately....
