I got to thinking about this when I was sweeping the kitchen the other day. I have two brooms--one has straw bristles (that are always falling out), and the other has nylon bristles. I prefer the nylon bristled one because the bristles bend to fit into corners easier.

Ours has straw bristles and yes it sheds. I'm waiting for it to wear out before I buy a nylon one.

I always used a straw broom...because thats what MY mother always used......until one day when I was working in a resturant and I was making the yeast rolls......(flour EVERYWHERE) and we needed a new broom...so I went and bought one and it was one of those nylon ones....the broom part is very short and angled...and two different colors I think...ANYWAY...it was absoluetly AMAZING how much better this nylon broom got up the fine flour from the floor than the straw brooms I had been using....so now..I always use a broom like that...my house sits right smack dab in the middle of a towel factory one one side and a rock quarry on the other...so its super dusty...Id rather get as much of that dust up the first time as possible!!

I use my straw broom on the front porch, it seems to not make such a mess if the porch is damp.

I have only ever used straw brooms. The one I have now I've had 6 years (the first one I bought when I moved out on my own) and it's in great shape and works wonderfully. When I moved in with dh, he had a nylon one which I hated because the plastic cap on the end of the handle kept popping off, so when you hung it, the cap would stay hung, but the broom always ended up on the floor. So now that broom is retired to the basement/garage for clean up there.

I use a nylon broom, all my brooms have been nylon inside & on the porch. When I was young my Mom had straw brooms & i never cared for them.
