Ok, I am filled with cloth diaper questions.

Ok, first off how many to buy? What brands are good brands?
I am looking into all in ones, but are aio's for newborns too? or are prefolds for newborns usually?

Any suggestions and help is appreciated as I didn't cloth diaper my first little guy. :eek:

Also interested--Can I add the question "How long were you able to use cloth?" most of my friends have said that by the time they were walking and active it was a leaky mess and just not worth it. But those girls are kinda lazy.

Ummm...I used cloth with both of mine...Pampers had just come out, and both kids and I were allergic to them, so it wasn't a multiple choice question LOL! I never used prefolds...the ones I had were long rectangles that I folded according to whether I was going to put it on DD or DS...they were just 18 mos, 3 days apart, and no, I didn't plan it that way ROFL! As for their being unusable when they got up and walking...no, I never had any problems with that. I would have at least three dozen per child, at a minimum...because you use them for everything...burp rags, impromptu bibs, dust rags LOL, wiping up spills....it's really amazing how useful they are LOL! And after the little varmint is potty trained, their usefulness just increases! Wash the car with them, dust with them, use them for kitchen towels...all kinds of stuff. They are especially nice for cleaning your monitor and TV screen...no scratches! Oh, and tuck a couple in the car for sweating drinks, spills....cleaning your windshield...LOL!

Basically, I think I am going to use Chinese prefolds for a few weeks in the beginning. (with a snappi fastener and covers) Or possibly a fitted diaper/cover. (looking into kissiluvs fitted diapers with stacinator covers) The all in one's don't seem quite right for a newborn, but maybe later.

I'm wondering how many to start out with. I may go with a diaper service for a month, just to see how I like it. We'll see.

I all i can say is your braver than me, I am one of those lazy people who it was every time i turned around she was soaked so i went with Luvs. i do think the ones with the center that is thicker is better, but what do i know. *don't answer that* LOL I just read this by the way they said something like 100 dipers and 20 rubber pants. which to me seems like a mountain of them.

I used prefolded cloth when I was at home, they were easier when they were newborn..... I used lots of them but they don't seem as messy when they are newborn........:baby:

I've known a few ladies over the years that used cloth diapers........All of one week maybe LOL
Everyone I know says they were messy.When you have a baby they poop alot and it's all runny.They said they would run out on the clothes and everything in the path. They said they spent more money on washing diapers than what disposables cost.

Using cloth is your choice,just giving my opinion on what I heard,as I have never tried cloth diapers..other than for cleaning.
People used them for many years though...

I had a diaper service and used cloth at home. We used disposables when we went out or to Grandma's house or a sitter was over. My two are 13 months, 10 days apart, so yep, I had two in diapers! It is just a little extra here to have double the amount of diapers delivered (then it was $50.00 for one set, $65.00 for two) per month. You might look into seeing if a friend could share them with you! BTW, I liked the cloth BETTER than the disposables. In some areas, you can buy the seconds from the diaper services.
