For many of us, home heating expenses will soon be coming. For one of us (me) its almost here. We've already had -1 C and Saskatchewan, one province over had -3C just 2 nights ago and its not looking for for the next few days. (I refuse to turn my heat on in Aug. period.)

What are some ways you save on home heating costs?

We just replaced the old sliding glass door and most of the windows in our home with energy efficient ones. The pellet stove heats our entire home for a fraction of the cost of electric heat. I have a fan in the hall that pushes the heat from the livingroom down the hallway to the bedrooms. All of our beds have either feather comforters or thick flannel quilts and flannel sheets on them during the colder months. Our heat is set at 70 and we keep it there during the heating season. Any higher and I get too hot, any colder and my fingers start turning blue!:D

Well living in the south it doesn't get too cold, but here are a few little tips I have.

*Close up rooms you aren't using to conserve heat.
*Keep a fan going near your vents to circulate heat.
*Use alternative heat if possible (wood or coal).
*Keep something over your head if you can stand it (we lose most of our heat through our heads).
*I totally agree with flannel sheets and down comforters. Quilts are great too.
*Pile on the clothes and snuggle with a loved one.
*Make warm drinks in a crockpot (like apple cider) and keep it on all day.
*Buy/make draft dodgers if you have drafty doors/windows.
*Window quilts (I heard about these on another list).

Its just I wish there were some new ways to cut costs. I'm doing lots, but I still think I could do more.

Here are a few links I found. From everything I've read or heard, its looks like were going to be in for a hard winter.
